Finally found a set of books that had been highly recommended to me, and I thought I must pass them on to the group here. They're called "Flightwise" there's volume 1 and 2. Author is Chris Carpenter, former head of Aerodynamics at the RAF college Cranwell. I understand that he is back in that post as a civilian now.

In any event, the books are fantastic, well written, quite a bit more comprehensive than HTBJ really and more updated.

They can be acquired through www.amazon.co.uk (http://www.amazon.co.uk) not through the U.S. site for some reason that I have yet to fathom..

Sorry about that, I just typed it the "short" version of it, so that made a mess of it. I figured most have amazon bookmarked, bad assumption, I guess!

The books are great, more just straight aero than HTBJ, very nice resource for those that like that sort of thing. He's planning a couple more after he retires too, they sound great (except for the one on rotorcraft, I'll be skipping that one!).

Tried extensively to find them in U.S. or Canada with no luck. The price and shipping through the UK site with regular mail is not that much (about US$6 for shipping or so), so I'd recommend you do that.

I just ordered them through the amazon.co.uk site 3 days ago, so I'm sure they are still there. Flightwise, one word, try it again. (I just did it just now (the UK site, mind you, NOT the U.S. site), typed in "flightwise" in the search bar at the very top of the web page and came up immediately with both volumes. The author is the one that told me where to find it there, incidentally.)

If that doesn't work, the publisher is http://www.airlifebooks.com/ , but I couldn't get that site to accept my payment. You may have to call them if you can't sort it out. Another source a VS friend found is http://www.transair.co.uk or
