For those of you who don’t know it East Fortune, about 20 miles to the east of Edinburgh, is the home of Scotland’s National Museum of Flight (http://www.nms.ac.uk/flight/index.htm) and has been chosen to receive one of the retiring Concordes. It has a thriving microlight school (http:/www.eosm.co.uk) using part of the airfield, an annual PFA fly in (http://www.eos-strut.org.uk/flyin2003.html) which attracted over a hundred a/c this year and is a popular tourist attraction.

Earlier this year Transco applied for planning permission to build a gas pumping station right next to the airfield. Details of the application can be found here (http://www.ukplanning.com/ukp/showCaseFile.do?councilName=East+Lothian+Council&appNumber=03%2F00577%2FOUT) It will result in severe disruption to the microlight school and jeopardise any future expansion in the use of the airfield for light aircraft. The museum has major plans for expansion and would love to see the main part of the airfield reopened on a regular basis to aircraft. If Transco’s application is approved this is unlikely to happen. The application is due to be heard soon and a concerted campaign is underway to persuade the Council to reject it. The latest news is here (http://www.edinburghnews.com/index.cfm?id=1254062003)

The website giving details of the application has a place for making comments on it. Although comments should be made within 14 days of the application being first publicised can I ask anybody who feels they have anything useful to say to do so as all comments will help. As always generalised rants against the development will have less effect than reasoned arguments about loss of a recreational facility, amenity and economic considerations etc.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this.
