This time of the year you often come across large heathland gorse fires. Has anyone ever got into differculties from the large amounts of oxygen these fires pull in, or indeed the large down drafts they can create ?

I gained my gliding Bronze C (2 x flights of more than 30 mins duration) thanks to a burning field at halesland (Cheddar Gorge). Where there are downdrafts, there are also updrafts! Bumpy ride but very exciting .... like going up in a lift! Made me cough a bit though...

The other day an airfield fire truck got sucked in to a heath fire at Blackbush.

Hope the crews are OK - it made a loud bang when it exploded.
