Does anyone know the conversion formulae from kN to lbs of static thrust?

I.e. CFM56-5A1 produces 111.20 kN. What is that in Lbs?

As a general aide memoire, a Newton is about the weight of a small apple. More accurately, there are g Newtons in a kg at 1g.

So...

111.20kn = 111,200 N

divide by g (9.80665) and you get 11,339kgf

to convert from kg to lbf, multiply by 2.2

Giving 24,946 lbf

About 25 thousand pounds of thrust.

Basic O level physics really.

Nice on Genghis!

Being one who is after the easy life and ballpark answers, I've always used divide by 10, then multiply by 2. I always wondered where the 10 came from. But this is from one who converts centigrade to fahrenheit by doubling it and adding 30.

Long live the 3-times table!
