Brive/Soulliac

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone knew what airlines will be flying into this airport apart from City Jet.

Airport opens on June 10th and is quite a large one, so wanted to know if any of the cheap airlines have signed up to be a carrier.

Now that the new Brive-Souillac airport has been going for a while, what are the prospects for Bergerac airport ?
The old Brive airport didn't really have the capacity for anything like an A320 / B737 size aircraft, so Bergerac pretty much had a free run in the area, unless you counted Toulouse or Limoges as proividing competition.

With Air France now operating to the new Brive airport and even Ryanair launching a route to the new Brive, are the days numbered for Bergerac ?
I just can't see there being enough demand to keep both airports going long term and wonder if this will force just one to end up as the dominant airport for the region.

Comments anyone ?

Dontīt forget David you are talkiing about regional France where every large town MUST have its own airport even if there are only two flights a day to Paris. Got some friends who live near Brive and a couple of years ago a local railway line was due to close but the locals made holy hell and surprise, surprise it has been renovated and kept open now with increased traffic! Lovely area to visit doubt very much if Bergerac or any other regional airport in France would close especially with a socialist French government in charge at the moment.

compton - I don't expect full airport closure (those double daily 19-seat flights to Orly on weekdays are sacrosanct), but I am trying to figure out if airlines like Flybe, Jet2 and Ryanair might be wondering whether Brive offers them either a better operational setup or a better customer demand compared to Bergerac.

Does Bergerac have what it takes to keep flights to the UK from migrating to Brive ? In particular, when there's only a handful of routes to the region, I very much doubt Ryanair will want to split their operations between Bergerac and Brive and may therefore be running a trial over summer 2013 (or sending a warning signal to Bergerac) before making a decision as to where to consolidate their Dordogne flights long term.

In 2011, Bergerac saw 1,661 domestic passengers (suggesting a load factor on the Bergerac-Orly route of below 10%), but 287,338 flying somewhere other than France. Brive by contrast had 39,997 domestic passengers, but only 19,492 international passengers. It seems odd that the 2 airports have very different domestic and international passenger profiles.

Don't forget there is also still a daily Flybe flight in the winter to SOU as well as the Twinjet operation to Paris, so there's just about enough to keep the small airport at Bergerac going during the winter months! I believe much of its popularity especially in the summer is down to those who own second homes in France, would moving flights to Brive be less desirable for these passengers?
