I still remember a Canberra limping in on one engine after swallowing a "mere" seagull, not an emu....
That engine was thrashed; not just some bent compressor blades, but the entire first few stages lying in the bottom of the nacelle in cookie-sized shreds.
Luckily the debris were contained.
