Boeing’s striking assembly workers on Monday recommended accepting a revised accord to end a strike that has paralysed commercial aircraft production at the US aerospace group for more than three weeks.
Around 18,400 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) began their action on September 2 after the two sides failed to agree a new three-year deal on pensions, health care benefits and working practices.
The parties had limited contact since the strike began, but a new round of talks late last week produced a proposed settlement with compromises on both sides. Boeing’s IAM members in the states and Washington, Oregon and Kansas are due to vote on the accord on September 29 in a move which would halt the rising exponential cost of the strike to both parties.
