LtCol. Wil De Klerk-Engle

Hello, ive been recently talking to the above name. He is an older fella with some great stories however, it doesnt all tally up IMHO.

He claims to have started off with the Royal Netherlands Airforce then went on to join the USAF.

He was a NASA and American Airlines Check airman.
He also was an Aeromedical Doctor.

What's interesting is that he claim to own a company called GEC based out of SXM flying multiple aircraft, one being the G650ER. (PJ-GECA)

I cannot find any record for this guy and im starting to believe he is a Walter Mitty.

Any information would help.

According to the Servicemember civil relief act website, nobody of that name served in the USAF, nor did anybody with the surname Klerk-Engle reach any commissioned officer rank, nor did anybody with either surname Klerk or Engle reach the rank of Lt. Col.

Doesn't mean that he wasn't in the Royal Netherlands Air Force though. Dutch pilots have been trained by the USAF for decades.

Variations of a name like DeKlerk-Engle, deKlerk-Engle and de Klerk Engle will play havoc with most government databases in my experience. I've been lost before in airline databases after a merger since my name was punctuated differently on two lists years before.

Still, this phony Gulfstream out of SXM does not pass the smell test.

Years ago I ran into a guy who claimed to have flown for NASA, flown helos in the Army and F-4's in the Air Force. When I asked if he had any airliner time he said he had flown 727's, 737's, 747's, 757's, 767's and 777's and a few other non-Boeings. I started wiping off my shoes.

Somebody told me he was legit, I didn't believe it.

I looked up his FAA license.

I want the guy to be legitimate, his knowledge of aircraft is very good and detailed to the point I believe him.

However, his story of owning a G650 Flying back and forth to KDAL for chemotherapy and still holding a Class 3 medical just doesnt seem right.

i would lose my medical if I took certain over the counter medicines. This guy is on chemo!

The reAson im looking into it is because I dont want to waste dialogue with a fake.

I know what you mean about wanting to believe him. There is a guy on the 40 meter amateur radio band (usually around 7168 kHz) most evenings who claims among other things, that he was a pilot and until recently owned a King Air. His FCC ham license has his address and legal name listed but he doesn't show up in the FAA pilot database, perhaps he hasn't held a medical for a while.

You might catch him with this link sometimes around 2300Z to 0300Z:

Northern Utah WebSDR #1

He is a warm and polite raconteur with stories of working in the coal business and other tales of living in places like St. Croix. He remembers names of former associates and locations that seem to be correct in conversations with other amateur radio operators who in the U.S. tend to be of an aging white male demographic. Other online sources indicate he is 80 years old which is what he says.

He claims he flew KC-135's and U-2's in the U.S. Air Force in the 1960's. He has tales of operating U-2's out of Beale AFB, Patrick AFB and Incirlik in Turkey. Of course, I checked see if his name is on the published lists of U-2 pilots of the era. It isn't. He makes an occasional claim about going to Air America and the secret war in Laos.

After that he says he got hired by Delta on the 737 but when they saw that he had the heavy time on the tanker they put him on the 747. Huh? Did Delta ever put newhires into the 737 or 747 in the 1970's or 1980's? Delta first operated the 737 in 1983 I believe. Did he possibly mean 727 to 747 as a newhire flight engineer?

Anyway, he's a nice guy and I enjoy listening to him chat on the radio. I don't know anything about the coal business 40 years ago but his aviation claims seem to me to be a little far-fetched.

I claimed to be a cook on a destroyer but maybe I was just a potato peeler, right?

Years ago I ran into a docent at the U.S. Air Force Museum who claimed to have flown the A-11, the YF-12 and the SR-71. Again, his name was missing from the published lists and he also invoked being involved in the secret war in Laos. After further research here and elsewhere it appears that he is known to be a fake.

Still, I've been wrong before as in the case of the guy above who said he flew all those Boeings. He may not have convinced me but, looking at his license, he sure convinced the FAA.

He just told me he flew an F111A to FL742.
Just checked online the service altitude is 66,000ft 🤔

PPRuNe has also had a fair few fantasists over the years. Some may remember The Governor, who was very convincing even to the extent of posting pictures of himself in uniform. He was not a pilot and turned out to be a child molestor who ended up in Jail.

Thank you, Dave, it's much appreciated. There is somebody else on my hit list who I believe uses two accounts to create conversation. Claims they are sisters however when you probe for more information you get smoke and mirrors and accused of harassment. Hence the for the info on the Falcon 8 in the other chat about PJ-GECA.
