Captain Richard Johnson (JB007)

It is with deep sadness that I advise you that Captain Richard Johnson was tragically killed in a road traffic accident in early March. Richard's funeral took place on Thursday 22 March at Rawdon Crematorium in Leeds.

Richard's career spanned many airlines including Go, Air World, Excalibur and My Travel where he had Crewing/Ops roles. He then gained his flying wings at Loganair, First Choice, Mega Maldives, DHL Air, Jet 2 and finally Titan Airways where he flew the 757 and had just completed a A320 conversion course. His father Brian (ex UK and Isle of Man CAA) and family were extremely proud of what Richard had achieved in his life and career. The funeral was attended by family and friends as well as many colleagues and representatives from his wide airline career. Particular note should go to the Staff, Flight Deck and Cabin Crew from Titan Airways who turned up in force for Richard and were a credit to the Airline Industry and their employer. Richard's PPRuNe handle was JB007 and his father mentioned that the Titan Cabin Crew had a good ability to handle both Richard's and James Bond's favourite drink - a vodka martini.

Finally in tribute; getting a nickname that sticks over the years is quite a rarity. I can honestly say that apart from day 1 when Richard arrived at Excalibur (and in this message) I only called him Richard once.
He was known to one and and all as the "Giggler" due to his infectious laugh, never Richard!

Let's raise our vodka martinis to the 'Giggler' - without doubt this world has lost a talented, kind, funny man and will be a sadder place without him.

From Anjinsan and many others.

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence, Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air ...

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind swept-heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, nor even eagle flew -
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
- Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

He was a great contributor to this forum and so, although I did not know him, I will miss him for that. Good to hear the Titan clan gave him a good send off, excellent bunch.

Huge sympathy and condolences to Richard's relatives, particularly his father Brian whom I have known since the 70s and who is himself a man of integrity and fun.

Very sorry to hear this sad news. I briefly knew Richard when we were both working for ExCalibur but we also communicated since via PPRuNe.

My condolences to all family, friends and colleagues.

Very sad news.
Had the pleasure of flying with Richard on the 757 at FCA and throughly enjoyed the days out with him.
RIP Richard, you will be very much missed.

Bugger. Flew with Richard at Loganair. Good man with, as you say, a great laugh.
What a pity.

Difficult to put into words how sad I was when I saw this. I had the absolutely honour to work with giggler at AIH/MYT and our paths crossed a few times afterwards. He was a credit to the industry. Truly one of the good guys and the world is a poorer place without him. God speed and blue skies !
