Very, very sad news.

I truly thought with his fortitude Simon would beat the [email protected]#$%d inside him and we'd be welcoming him back in fullness of time.

I'm sure there are many people from his time at Emerald, Gill and Eastern who will be shocked and saddened at Simon's premature passing.

Thoughts are with Lisa, his family and close friends at this very sad time.

Fly high and free my friend.

God bless.

The Cat.

A Good Man

I had hoped for a happier outcome but not to be

Worked with him at Eastern and thought very highly of him. He had an interesting life and career, bright, an Oxford man who chose flying over the family business.

He achieved FoD at Gill. Survived in management at Emerald but came into his own at Eastern where he was selected to be Head of Training over several strong candidates.

And so on.... Sad he went that fast that young.

Thanks

Well said he was a class act but by no means alone in that respect. Eastern was and remains a funny place in which plenty of good people start and finish their careers

RIP Simon..

I was told the news this weekend at a dinner. I left T3 some years ago and had a very enjoyable time there. Shocked by the news as I know that Rawc's put a huge effort and hours into Eastern and I hope that all at HUY (I'm sure they do) appreciate his service. My condolences to his family and friends at this sad time. Rest assured his legacy is flying above you as we remember him.Cheers, Simon.
PS: Appreciate any details on funeral arrangements if appropriate by PM if necessary.

Very sad to hear of Simons passing.

I knew Simon at Emerald.I always saw him as the voice of reason and sanity in an otherwise unreasonable and insane place! He had the ability to always see the bigger picture.

He had an enviable relaxed management style, and was always approachable whatever the problem.

The type of person unfortunately rarely seen in management and many would be wise to emulate his style.

RIP Simon.

Thanks

So nice to hear great comments about my daft old dad, thanks to all of you who have taken the time to write down your thoughts. We are devastated, he was very special to us, and we're glad to hear he was to you all too. Sam & Lisa.

p.s. Seeing as this is a relatively private group I can tell you all that the service will be at St Oswalds church in Wylam, Northumberland at 1230 on 14/2/13. We hope that all that would like to be there will come, he'd have loved that.

I was shocked to hear the sad news about Simon.

I flew with him regularly at Gill in the late 90s - he was a top bloke and good company.

RIP Simon.

Hi Sam

I hope the music at the funeral reflects Simon's tastes...

Stunned to hear this, being out of the industry was not aware Simon had been ill. A genuine and helpful person who was very fair in all he did. Sincere condolences to his family and friends, blue skies Simon!!

Didn't have many dealings with him, he was my DFO but wasn't on the FK100, so not much direct dialogue.

What I remember though. . .all positive.

Sad, God had another bad day in the office & couldn't separate the wheat from the chaff.

We are all coming to join you Simon, just excuse us if we don't rush mate . . . your round when we arrive

I hadn't seen this thread but was saddened to hear the news, Simon interviewed and employed me at Emerald, my first job in aviation in at the deep end in ops, I can only repeat what others have said, he took me under his wing during my steep learning curve into a new industry for which I'l be forever grateful, thanks for your help, mentoring and enjoyable criticism of the red half of Merseyside. RIP Simon

Angel What a send off

There must have been around 200 family, friends and colleagues in Church today. Such was the measure of the man.

I'm sure Simon would have been pleased, but modestly embarrassed, to know how much he was loved, respected, admired, and will be very sorely missed.

Obviously a loving husband and son, a doting dad, a true friend and a consumate professional. I'd like to think we shared many parallels Simon but if I can be half of what you were I'll be a contented old fool.

Simon, lots of us owe our flying careers to your patience, vision and belief. Thank you.

Sam, you were eloquent, stoic and mature today - qualities your 'daft' old dad (and your mum) will be so proud of. You will be welcome at HUY whenever you wish to come.

Look after your mum and fly high.

God bless.

The Cat.

One year on, we have raised 2985 for Dad's favourite charity "Comrades of Children Overseas" in his name. This has meant that a girl's school dormitory in Uganda now has a roof, and hopefully in another years time we can have the boys in shelter too.

Keeping the memory fresh, I lingered at the gate of his college one sunny morning this week.

He's not been forgotten. Only the other day I was remembering when we were based up in Wick together. I was a newly promoted captain and Simon a new F/O. Lots of memories!
