Are there no mods reading who can shead a little light on the whereabouts of Rainboe? If they can bestow a tag on his name without his consent then surely they could let us know whether he has been booted out or merely stopped logging in...?

Talking about Mods bestowing a title without consent a few years ago I made a comment on a thread about BA cabin crew and said words to the effect that if BA include the word DIRECTOR in their job title then it is no wonder that some get ideas above their station.

So I get DIRECTOR bestowed on me. I have now got rather used to it and so I should perhaps thank flyblue for that

Sorry Hogg. Didn't mean to offend- Just curious. Judging by this thread I'm not the only one...

Some say Rainboe is a breath of fresh air. Others insist he's a nasty smell. Whatever your view, he's definitely different...

40+ years of survival without displaying a degree of maturity and respect for fellow human beings is hardly a shining record
How do you presume to know the way he operated in those 40+ years? And what experience do you have to criticize anyway, Bon Giorno?

If Rainboe has been a touch sour lately it is probably due to reading too many ill-judged posts like yours which now flood this once professional pilot network.

On song, Rainboe contributes some of the most readable and informative posts on PPRuNe.

Try this:

on the VC10 (one of many).

Rainboe regularly bragged of his own experience, and made blatant assumptions in his writing that his fellow posters didn't have anywhere near his level of skill, expertise or longevity in the industry. To make this assumption and dismiss most others on the thread who tried to voice their opinion didn't make him "different". It made him rude.

I can remember reading "Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain when I was a kid.

Does anyone else remember how they were quite flattered when they heard of all the fuss and nonsense made by the rest of the world when it was assumed that they had both been drowned in the river?

I reckon that Rainboe is quietly reading PPRuNe and is quite chuffed by some of the comments made upon his apparent demise. It is a bit like being present at one's own funeral.

The sad thing is that he has backed himself into such a deep cul-de-sac that it will be very difficult for him to come back.

Personally speaking, that is a pity.

Looks like a bit longer than a week Hogg.

Great to see a post from you again Chris - I haven't noticed you on the Airbus fora of late.

Hey fc, good to hear from you. Guess I'm feeling a bit out of date (like my manuals). You remember when Airbus FBW pilots like you and me were regarded as an eccentric rarity? Word has it, the whole world is now teeming with them.

And see my next post.

Chris

The biggest crime on a discussion forum may well be unprovoked rudeness, particularly during a technical debate.

But pig-headedness and wilful ignorance whether it's from experienced aviation pros, young upstarts, retired old farts like me, or anyone else are arguably the most off-putting aspect of PPRuNe, as far as serious contributors are concerned.

I guess most serial posters have made enthusiastic contributions on technical issues that do not stand up to close scrutiny myself included. Mistakes like that can, however, provoke a brief discussion which may be useful for readers lower on the learning curve. But, if the perpetrator stubbornly refuses to admit his mistake, the debate will often degenerate into a slanging match that inhibits discussion of the wider topic.

Then there are the nit-pickers and wind-up merchants, who trivially dismiss a thoughtful contribution in its entirety on the grounds that, for example, the writer may have used kilograms instead of Newtons when discussing forces. This is usually in an attempt to hide limited knowledge and intellect.

As one of average ability trying to explain a characteristic of flight which experience has led us to take for granted, it takes time and discussion to develop your argument, and to articulate it in a manner that is comprehensible and satisfactory to a scientifically-minded person outside the profession. Sometimes when I've tried to do this on Tech Log, the feedback has made me wonder if the next post would demand that I prove the Sun doesn't orbit the Earth.

It does become tedious, if not discouraging.

Most of us come on this forum to exchange knowledge and experience with like-minded people, have lively discussions, share anecdotes and some light-hearted banter, and perhaps to encourage new people into the industry. Admittedly never a victim of Rainboe's occasional vitriol well, not yet anyway I suggest nevertheless that some of his detractors might also take a look at their own behaviour on this forum. They may not be the main problem with PPRuNe but neither is he.
