Sqn Ldr Lee Jones Red Arrows

Hope that any members may be able to help: I am trying to locate my Great Uncle - Sqn Ldr Lee (Leo) Jones who led the first Red Arrows team back in the 60's. I believe he also worked out in the Middle East for a time and the last I knew he was living with his wife (Billy) in Southampton... However, this was 10 years ago or so.

If he was still alive he would be around 80 - 90. It would just be nice to know either way.

Many thanks

Mr Chris Botley

Chris, your Q has been asked over on the Mil site (currently on the first page as of Dec 11th)..............you may want to have a look there. Besides I think you will have more luck in that particular forum. Good luck.

Google "Yellowjacks" and you will find an entry for Lee Jones setting up the RAF Display team using Gnats out of Valley. They were painted yellow.
There is also a video out there called "A history of the Red Arrows" or similar with some excellent interview clips with Lee Jones talking about Gnats , the display team , doing twinkle rolls in formation and the roll rate of the Gnat.
I have it in a dusty shoe box in the attic somewhere.
