PPL Hughes/MD500

I am going to get my PPL and also going to buy a Hughes 500D or a MD500 want want to learn in my own Heli as well.

Does anyone know of a good instructor in the Myrtle Beach SC area?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You lucky guy. And by the way, what's finally the official name of this helicopter?
Is it still called the MD500?

I used to instruct in a Hughes 500D, which is my favorite helo. I would offer to help, but I am six hours south of you and I let my CFI expire. Are you already a pilot and want to do this as an additional rating?

Is it typical to start one's rotary life with a $600,000 helicopter?

If money is no object....yes. Happens all the time in the fixed wing world.

In general, not unusual. A friend of mine did the same thing and I taught him to fly it and he obtained a commercial rotorcraft-helicopter add-on rating.

It is not unusual for non-pilots to purchase an airplane which they use to obtain a PPL.
