B737NG Check
Hi,
I am going to undertake a B737NG accelerated type rating and ATP check. There's an oral to take. Besides the NG tech questions, would there be many Part 121 questions? If so what's the best way (notes/books) to study the 121s? I have an ASA FAR/FC 2009 copy to start, but it isn't easy reading! IR |
Normally your training/type school should brief you thoroughly on what is expected in terms of the oral etc. Normally the oral is limited to:
1. Limitations 2. Memory Items. 3. Walk around slide show questions. 4. System questions usually conducted while reviewing the cockpit panel in the classroom. All this can take around 45 mins to 1 hr. It all depends on the examiner and how you progress. If you get stuck along the way they start digging deeper. If you have never flown FAR 121 then they might not ask you much at all. Although it would be good to know some of the rules, mainly pertaining to flight ops (alternare requirements, f/A requirements, etc etc). good luck |
I'm just curious why you are taking a 737ng course? Do you already have a job? Are you financing this yourself in hopes of getting employment?
It is not my intention to praise or reject your decision, I am just curious as to your situation, so I can relate it to my experience. Thanks:ok: Please pm me, if you get the time....good luck on the checkride and the info. you received in an earlier post is spot-on. |
I have the ASA ATP Oral Exam Guide by Michael Hayes, is this a good book as a study guideline? However it's not type specific, maybe it's over the top and the above info in previous posts will suffice?

The ATP written exam test guide is for the written FAA exam. You do not need to study that for a B737 type rating. If you study what I have mentioned above you should be just fine. Just out of curiosity, isn't your school advising you at all? They should be if they are worth anything.
Since you are also getting your ATP with your type rating, you can also expect to get up to altitude and get a high dive on your simulator checkride. The FAA PTS has also the required items for the ATP check as well as the tolerances. |
Hi,
I've done the written, the above guide is specifically for the oral. I'm in the process of selecting a school, just getting a head start on the ground school side of things. IR |
