USA Jet

Does anyone have details on working for USA Jet out of KYIP? I've found a bunch of info on line, but I'm curious as to how much the Falcon pilots actually fly. I've heard everything from "There is all the overtime you want" to "I only flew 3 hours last month" so I am trying to get the real story.

Thanks

Try Flightinfo.com

A better suggestion is to search on propilotworld.com There are up do date threads on what you are looking for, without the flamers and posers that are on the other forum.

JimmyNorton 12th August 2007 17:48

Both those places want $10 to join. Oh well thanks anyway.

Here's a few snippets from other website you might find helpful.

"Another class in July, 4 DA-20 F/O's, we got about a dozen in the pool to chose from. Decision will made to fill the class around mid-June. It looks like DA-20 Captain will go to around one year with the company and DC-9 F/O to about six months. DC-9 Captain is still at 7 years. Lots of flying right now, lots breaking guarentee."

" USA Jet adds second aircraft pay
If you fly a second 135 airplane at USA Jet, all flying in the second airplane is paid at over guarantee. So a DA-20 Captain is assigned to fly the King Air 90, and flies 12 hours in the DA-20 and 12 hours in the King Air, he will get 67 hours of pay for that month. Not bad considering our average DA-20 Captain makes around $100/hr"

If I come across anything else helpful I'll post it. You really should consider forking out the ten bucks though, those other sites are both very good for finding US info.

The director of training for USA Jet is a member at both PPW and FI.

If you're gonna spend the ten bucks, I'd choose PPW. Check out the free 7 day trial offer.

Good jobs available at USA Jet

USA Jet is a decent job. Flying hours per month vary between 10 to 80 with the average about 50. Good place to learn to be a real jet pilot. Training is excellent and pilot corps is a good croud. Worth looking into.

Yip9fr8dog 1st September 2007 14:17

What?

The pilots at USA Jet are flying their butts off!

Dynasty22:

Years ago, Zantop Int'l Airlines operated various fleets through YIP: the Convair 640, Lockheed Electra (L-188) and DC-8s. I jumpseated in '84 on a Zantop Electra from there to ORD, in order to connect there with MVA for groundschool in the Quad-Cities on the Shorts 330/360.

Based upon what I read, Zantop was a decent operation, and never understood why they closed the business down. A number of pilots seemed to be working there as a career. One of their Convair Captains came over here.

I have been at USA JET for close to 15 years In Aug I flew well over 100 hours on the Falcon ( by choice) " The best revenge is to take their $$$$$$

Hi!

If U want a bunch of info on USA Jet, PM me.

U SHOULD join both flightinfo and propilotworld. Pay the $10. It is worth getting a decent job.

A perfect example of this is one guy just started training at Compass, but he had no idea Northwest would be hiring now, and he really wanted to go to NWA. If he had been on either flightinfo OR propilotworld, and spent even a little bit of time researching, he would've known a minimum of 6 months ago that NWA would be hiring now, and he never would've taken the job at Compass. He thought the ONLY way to get to NWA was to go to Compass and flow through.

A USA Jet guy flies an average of 50 hours a month. If you want to sell your days back, you can easily fly more. If you want to take all your days off (ie: NOT sell them back) you'll fly about 50.

It is a good job, but it's not for everyone. The worst parts are if you're flying freight, you're on a pager 24/7 and you may have to be at work in 25 minutes.

Good Luck!

Well there's your problem. No good spending a day there, everything happens at night for freight pilots.

fokkerjet 3rd October 2007 02:50

Flew into YIP the other day, and it looked to me that most of their DC9 fleet were parted out; or are at least sitting engine-less. The Falcon's didn't look very healthly either, but I don't know how many they had to begin with. :ooh:

Correct Me USA Jet Pilots

Correct me if I'm wrong, USA JET has the only Freight Falcons that are RVSM Certified?

Also, as far as On-Demand Freight Flying is concerned USA Jet is by far the best outfit.

Money is great
Sked is Very good. (Hard Days OFF)
Pilot Moral is good.
MX is good.
Plus they gotta flow thru career plan to the 9's. (Not really sure how it works, tho)

But YIP as a place to live is not GOOD! Really run down kinda town.
Unfortunately with the 15 mins call out you gotta be pretty close to KYIP.

Also, not a member of PPW but Flt. Info is a good resource to get the low down on various company's

Just my .02 cents

atpcliff 3rd October 2007 15:59

Hi!

IFL has RVSM Falcon 20s that also have Garrett engines. They are AWESOME!

The USAJet falcons have RVSM and GPSs. They are getting all GPSs with color moving maps (KLN-94).

The callout, if you're flying freight, is 25". U get a 25" callout about 25% of the time-the rest of the time it's longer-even up to a couple of days notice.

If you're flying PAX reserve, it is a 2 hour callout. If you are a regular PAX pilot flying the schedule there is no callout. During NCAA season there is a 6-month schedule, and the rest of the time it's monthly-mostly 6 on/4 off.

USA Jet is planning on adding MD-8xs and/or 737-400s or better down the road. The MDs may come quick, the 737s at least 18 mos away-more likely 30 mos.

10 DC-9s flying now and 6 Falcons. Used to have 12/12. Also: 1 PAX Falcon 20, 1 PAX Lear, and 1 King Air. They are used to shuttle the -9 PAX crews back and forth, and for DV flights.

Oh, they also operate 3 -9s, 1 G-III, 1 Lear-35 and 2 Twin Otters out of ABQ. Separate operation-gov't contract. -9s are changing to 737s soon.

I don't keep up with USAJet, by from what I've seen, as recent as September 23rd, are a whole bunch of DC-9's sitting grouped on the southern end of their ramp, without engines. A few of the operational DC-9's appear to be passenger -30's, but the freight -10's seem parked for what I'd describe as "long-term" storage. But again, this was my view from the taxiway and I have no 'official" information as to what their plans are, or how they are doing.

atpcliff 9th October 2007 17:40

Hi!

Currently 6 -9 freighters and 4 PAX. 6 Falcon freighters.

USA Jet is keeping 2 -9 freighters and 2 Falcon freighters as backup. The rest of the old -9/Falcon freighters are being parted out and sold as scrap.

C U!
