Meigs Update
Chicago, IL -- According to published reports, the City of Chicago has finally surrendered in its fight against the Federal Aviation Administration over the illegal closure of Meigs Field.
The Chicago Sun-Times, (9/18/06) reports that--after two years of legal wrangling and hundreds of thousands in legal bills--the City of Chicago has caved in and agreed to pay the maximum fine allowed by law for failure to give proper public notice of the closure of Meigs Field. More significantly, the City will be forced to repay $1 million that it misspent from federal Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funds to pay for the demolition and development of a park. A settlement agreement with the FAA is said to end over three years of legal wrangling since the complaint was first registered with the FAA by the national Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association........... http://64.143.36.15/html/news/news_c...renders_to_FAA Dave Fisher |
Does that mean Meigs stays closed?

Overall, a victory for the City of Chicago. I'd think $1 million is peanuts for what the land and development rights are worth. What a shame. Daley should have gotten time in jail for this too.

Damn! now my Flightsim 2002 is really out of date.

The next time I pass (wind) through the Windy City, I would love to have a personal "chat", face-to-face, with that scum-bag Daley.
...Mr. Daley, your shameful act will be the only thing I will remember you for, you worthless twit. :* |
I always thought he (Daley) was a scumbag, but ever since that incident I have found it hard to believe anything he says. When he came out stating that the airspace around Chicago would be more tightly controlled without Meigs there, the media reported it as though it were fact, instead of reporting the truth. When the truth is that airspace is now Class E and anybody can go flying down there.
http://micahsgospel.!!!!!!!!.com/ This blog is written by a guy who was working the tower that day. It's an interesting read. |
"I became another post-9/11 statistic, except my job wasn’t stolen by terrorists, but by a fellow American, a politician and leader—a man who got his way by brute force and violent action"
No question Daley is a scumbag, but look who is further up the food chain than him? The same bloke that tells folk there's WMD in Iraq and Saddam Hussein has close ties to Al Queda. Both have got to these positions of power by being voted in, so someone must think they are ok .... :yuk: :ugh: |
Calling a Daley a scumbag? Now that truly is redundant.
Like father, like son. |
