Icao-->faa

Hey

I am looking to convert my comm/multi/IFR from canadian to FAA. Anyone know the costs or where I should do this? I was thinking of doing it in Trenton NJ at ATP. I would need to convert an instructor rating as well. Also is it still possible to get a work visa to instruct if you are canadian? I am looking to move to new york with my gf.
thanks in advance.

Instructing

I think the lack of CFIs now are causing some flight schools to hire foreigners (everyone getting hired at the regionals at 1000 hours TT or less even). I know the flight school where I live in Princeton, NJ (39N) which is only a 10 minute drive from Trenton just sponsored a Canadian to work as a Flight Instructor, worth checking out if you are in TTN anyway.

I would agree with you that ATP is great if you want to get done as quickly as possible. I went to ATP in Trenton too, the only thing is that it is a very small ATP site and you may have to work around available schedules. If you have some reason to prefer TTN, ok, but otherwise you might consider a larger ATP base like Atlanta (Fulton Cty) where they have tons of instructors and planes.

Good luck.
