USAIR Pilots Terminated at U.A.E. in the mid 80's
Does anyone know the circumstances of why several, if not all, of the USair guy's hired in the mid 80's were sacked by Emirates?

?
Did you mean USAir pilots hired by USAIR in the mid-1980s sacked by Emirates TODAY?
Thought you needed CAA/JAR license for Emirates. |
An FAA certificate is acceptable to Emirates. They have been and are continuing to interview pilots from the United States.
Don't know anything about USAir pilots here in the mid-80s. There were a number of former Eastern pilots in the late 80s and early 90s. I'll ask around though since you have my curiousity up. Typhoonpilot |
To my knowledge there is only one ex-USAIR guy employed by Emirates. Still happy and still working.
There are also several US pilots down for hire by Emirates as a result of the industry downturn in the US of A. There were only five US pilots employed prior to 1993. One came from Saudia and rose to be Flight Training Manager before an honourable and well-earned retirement. One was ex-USAF and Air Jamaica who left to set up the Qatar B747 operation. Three were ex-Eastern. One had been in EAL management and successfully trnsitioned from Boeing to Airbus. He left to SIA with no slur attached to his name. One failed his transition from Boeing to Airbus and was subsequently employed in Air Lanka. Don't know what happened to him but he was not thrown out of Emirates. One guy did a runner. The car stopped to pick him up for work and the house was empty, and subsequently so were the bank accounts etc. That left a bad taste in everybodies mouths. As somebody said - Emirates bars no-one, provided you meet their requirements. |
