Flying Hours

Following on from a previous thread, how many flying/ duty hours per week/ month/ year do you fly in your airline?

redsnail 10th July 2003 07:24

Last week. About 18 hours.
This week (2 nights) 8 hours.
A month. About 50 or so hours.
A year. Dunno, haven't done a year yet.

Hours rather restricted by night duty limits.
I fly night freight in the mighty Shed.

Under the FAR 121 international rules, I used to regularly fly 100 hours a month long haul. (It's not that difficult if you fly 10 hour sectors). The limits then were 120 hours in 30 days with a limit of 300 hours in 90 days. Therefore 1200 hours per annum was possible although I never managed that.

It wasn't a bad life style for a young man for you could run up 100 hours in around 18 days and then have to go off duty for 12 days or so before you could start again. The off time (without having to take leave) was very nice - you can do a lot in 12 days.

The thing that really got your attention was the fact that you got paid an hourly rate for 50 hours per month guaranteed and anything on top was a bonus. Therefore a 100 hour month resulted in double pay.

Last night 9 (greek island), tonight 9 (Turkey). 80 hours per month on average all year round. Charter operator.

metrodriver13 19th July 2003 09:28

Average about 6.5 hrs. a day
13 days a month of flying(average 17 days off)
2 weeks vacation
all equals about 900 hours a year.

Sounds like alot, but we get a lot of time off each month!

20 days a month, 180 duty hours, 70-80 flight hours. 737 FO SH.

Avarage is 70 flying/150 duty hours per month with 10 days off. More than half of those hours are during night flights. Works out to around 750 hours per year with a mix of short/medium/long haul.
