Virgin Red
 

Wanted to know if anyone had any information on the proposed U.S. startup by Virgin. I read in Flight International that Branson plans to start an airline in the US in six months time and be hubed from a current Virgin destination. Taking a look at the route map, my guess would be IAD but that is just a guess.

Anyone with information on who to contact would be appreciated. The Virgin product looks appealing and IMO they would have success in the US with their inovative way of doing things. As a UAL pilot, I would like to work somewhere like Virgin that seems to promote a fun enviroment.

From my economics lessons, I thought that an airline was only allowed to operate in a single country? Therefore, an airline would be allowed to fly from EGLL to KIAD, let passengers off but NOT ON, refuel and continue to KLAX. It would not be allowed to even run a seperate airline under a parent company. Obviously I must be confused, could someone could explain?

Rich49---Virgin Red is supposed to be a low-cost start-up carrier flying domestic routes in the USA, with either A320/B737 aircraft. It would be owne partially by Sir Richard and based in the US. Sort of like an alter-ego of Virgin Blue in Oz and Virgin Express in Belgique.

Sorry to take so long to reply. Too much work lately. I am not furloughed from UAL, and should be safe (if there is such a thing as safety from furlough!)

Do you have any contacts in the US for Virgin Red? I am interested in leaving UAL for something new.

Sorry, no contacts. I did write to Sir Richard, though.

I have heard of 3 UAL pilots who took LOAs to fly at GulfAir, Omni Air and AirAtlanta.

Is it that bad over there?

I am hoping for Virgin to start soon, also. I would leave AA in a heartbeat(that is, if they don't furlough me first!). Take care.TC

I saw last week on the net that branson has gotten $150 mill backing for the start up (no news on from whom).

He said he wasn't rigid on the US citizenship limitation.

Be nice to see another red & white paint job "back" in the skies..
