virgin atlantic

I am considering applying to virgin atlantic in the new year, and i was wondering if any virgin pilots could enlighten me as to pay/ conditions. Also, i believe that you can pretty well base yourself anywhere in the u.k., is this true?

Many thanks in advance!

This link will give an idea of recent thoughts on pay and conditions that may be of interest. We are about to conclude extensive negotiations with management re the above so things could change for the better in the near future.

Whatever you decide to do good luck...

Thanks gonadz!
I'll have a look at that, do u know anything about where you can base yourself ?

Live anywhere you like. the only company rule is that you have to be within 2 hours of LHR while on standby.

Dan is absolutely correct.

If you are thinking of doing a lot of commuting then the Airbus fleet probably has the edge over the 400. At the moment the 400 folk are flying 5 or 6 trips/month whereas the Airbus 1, perhaps 2, a month less. That said the 400 rosters appear to be slightly more stable than the Airbus (often having to wait longer to get their roster due to last minute changes to schedules).

Gonadz,

When you said that the 400 folk fly 5 or 6 trips/month whereas the airbus guys fly 1 or 2 less....well is this fair as you all come out with the same salary at the end of the month and also can you say how long you are away on these trips?

The chaps who live in the south of France, Spain or even anywhere in the UK, how do they travel to LHR/LGW....if they catch a flight to their base do they pay full fare or do they get a discount even if they do not work for that airline that flys them to london.

Anyone Know?

Cheers!

The -400 guys do more Eastern seaboard trips than the A340, so have to fly more to reach 70-80 hours per month. A JFK is about 14 hours but a Hong Kong is 25 hours ish.
After 6 months you qualify for staff travel with some carriers and 12 months for everyone else. Standard ID90 type tickets
Hope this helps ;)

Thanks for adding that info Pnooze,

all is now clear...cheers!

off the track slightly here, but does anyone know the bare minimum requirements for Virgin F/O position??

rich49 19th June 2003 18:01

Try here, 2500 to 3000 hours with 1000 to 1500 on a jet such as the BAe 146.

PS- what was the address of that website with the job info listings for all the UK air operators? PPJN or something!
