BACX J41 flight crew for Eastern?

Can anyone please inform me if the BACX pilot/flight crew arrangements for Eastern have been proposed and/or agreed/accepted? Are the flight crews being seconded from BACX to Eastern for a specified time period (or even indefinetly) or are BACX management proposing to offload them to Eastern as a 'going concern'?

Lucky Strike 7th January 2003 23:24

No information regarding secondments from BACX to Eastern has been passed to BACX pilots. No information regarding Eastern terms and conditions has been made available to BACX pilots. The first we know about it are when our jobs our advertised in Flight today (Tues).

Many of us have been offered demotion and pay cuts with no relocaton package from NCL/LBA. Do we accept the reduction in salary and the (non paid for) relocation or do we apply for our jobs with Eastern when the Easten terms are unknown and unpublicised?

FlyboyUK 8th January 2003 15:00

As far as any agreements with Eastern & BACX go over flight crews, I understand that there will be the option of voluntary secondment, but the crews are not a going concern with the aircraft, hence why Eastern have advertised in flight. The company and BALPA are still negociating how to deal with all the displaced pilots

REDUNDANCY NOTICE & enforced pay cut

News this afternoon hot off the press from the Glasgow Hangar where a number of hostess' are on a course. Redundancy notices have been served on some (exact number unknown) hostesses from NCL. Others said that they have been offerred work with Eastern with a £5000pa pay cut.
What nice companies BACX and Eastern have turned out to be to work for.

Mister Geezer 8th January 2003 18:37

What makes Eastern ' not a nice' company to work for? Bit harsh isn't it?

I do feel sorry for those guys who are far up the seniority list, who might want to stay on the J41 or at least stay in LBA or NCL. They must be facing some challenging decisions.

Dai Rear 8th January 2003 20:43

Bit harsh?

With respect Mister Geezer, and since you ask, what I think is a bit harsh is skilled, professional and dedicated personnel, who have committments and responsibilities, being forced to take a £5000 drop in salary. They have very little control over the circumstances.
Is this not going the wrong way? Is it not normally the case that people changing jobs want an increase and not a decrease? I can't help thinking that those who do excercise control over these circumstances would not contemplate such a loss for themselves.

Right chaps I've found some info on eastern turbo prop pay from the IPA dated Jan2000. Can't imagine its increased much over the last few years.

Captain Basic £29064
Captain top scale £34164

F/O Basic £16422
F/O top scale £24434

Line trainer extra £500
TRE £775
IRE £1250

money purchase pension scheme and 20 days holiday per year. Fairly crap when compared with current BACX terms.

Hope you find this info useful.

Eastern recruitment

If the Citiexpress crew do not jump ship to Eastern then where are all the crews going to come from? Their advert wants rated only and I can get nowhere by calling them, not rated - not interested. Are there really lots of J41 rated bods kicking their heels waiting for the Eastern call? I doubt it, so why do this company have their head in the sand...?

ONE DOWN . . . 7 TO GO!

ONE DOWN, SEVEN MORE TO GO . . .
News this morning, hot off the press from David Evans . . .

"With immediate effect, I have been appointed managing director of British Airways CitiExpress. This appointment carries with it a change to the legal AOC responsibility for the company, from the chief operating officer Rob Hearn to myself as managing director. My other responsibilities held previously as GM UK Business remain unchanged.

As a consequence of this decision there is no longer a requirement for a chief operating officer role for the company and as such Rob Hearn will stand down from this post once the legal transfer of responsibility for the company’s AOC has taken place."

No doubt gets his golden handshake and glowing reference . . .

marlowe 17th January 2003 09:29

1 down 7 to go

Well if its fact about David Evans, and that Rob Hearn is standing
down as chief operating officer lets not get over excited Evans is
bound to find his mate a job in the company it wont be golden handshake time just a move sideways so all his pension rights etc etc will be intact.

Redline 18th January 2003 11:27

It has been mooted that Hearn got the bullet because of the handling of the shambolic events of Dec 18th.

It has been alleged that Eastern have not even signed a contract and now have BACX senior management over a barrel as we have all been told that bases are closing and that aircraft are going when in fact no deal is done.

While there was a hard core of loyal committed employees willing to give the management the benefit of doubt pre-dec 18, any goodwill has now evaporated completely.

This once great collection of airlines (Brymon,BRAL,Manx) has become the industry joke. Squandering money, personel and loyalty has now become the order of the day.

OPEN LETTER TO DAVID EVANS

David,
fristly, please forgive my use of this website to contact you anonymously, but the current climate dictates that direct contact is unwise. Furthermore I cannot use Write To Rob now that you have fired him and in any case, Rob has not opened WTR since Halloween - there's a moral in that somewhere.

Secondly - congratulations in carrying out a brave and just action. There may be hope for the company after all. As earlier stated - 7 more to go.

Third and most important point (for the time being). BACX inherited a Dash 8 Newcastle to Aberdeen route that Brymon had operated successfully for many years. Purely by coincidence, once we merged, the route then became unprofitable so we carried out our tried and tested forluma - panic button and pull out. Eastern then took on the route with an Embraer 135 and were doing well until this week when BMI announced that they would also operate an Emb135 Aberdeen to Newcastle in direct competition with Eastern. This has sent a shock wave through Eastern's expansion plans and the Glasgow hangar loyal employees are piggy in the middle, in current speculation that the 'deal' is now off. However, isn't it strange that our management can't compete, and can't operate profitable routes profitably, and as soon as we pull out, other operators fall over themselves to take up where we left off.
David - do the decent and honourable thing and sack the rest of the mismanagement shower en masse.
In adhering to our other tried and tested company policy of giving away routes and aircraft left, right and centre, I can inform all the readers that our 3 highland & island ATP routes will be soon be given over to LogieBaird next door along with 3 Dash 8s!
You'll see - I have a network of informers who put MI5 to shame.

TL1R 21st January 2003 17:52

Check your sources Dai as yet again you spout mis truths. Eastern have never operated an Emb 135 on ABZ - NCL. Should have thought a man with your industry knowledge and experience would have got this right at least.

Dai Rear 22nd January 2003 08:21

Corrigenda

My thanks to TL1R for correcting my error. I see from Eastern's web page that the route will be operated by a J41 and will start in March - assuming the deal goes ahead!
That said - I believe that the substance of my open letter to David Evans is still essentially correct.

ATR42 Guy 1st February 2003 16:38

can anyone tell me when the planning for the J41 deal with eastern began?

Mister Geezer 3rd February 2003 19:09

Meeb

Eastern are notorious at not responding to CV's or even e-mails when it comes to flight crew recruitment. Don't lose heart though - keep trying!

Dai

Firstly, I fully appreciate the point that you made and I do understand the predicament that BACX J41 crew are in. The sink or swim attitude is far from ideal but one must take into account that Eastern are a small regional airline and not the largest regional airline in Europe as is the case with BACX. Naturally some drop in pay and conditions has to be expected! If you had BACX J41 crew being employed by Eastern on their previous BACX terms and conditions then can you imagine the potential problems that could be caused amongst the Eastern flight deck community? You could have a senior BACX F/O leave to Eastern and sit in the right seat and be earning more then a junior Eastern Captain! If I was that Eastern captain then I would be a bit hacked off at seeing a new F/O join the company and automatically take home more than I would after I waited in the right seat until my name moved up the seniority list etc etc! It would be nice to see BACX crews getting a fair deal but sadly it does not look very hopeful!
