Vueling Pilot Shortage
 

There seems to be a pilot shortage at Vueling, at the moment, right?

Pilots leaving for Easyjet, Iberia, China, Etc. for better working conditions ?

Leaving Europe for Asia ?

Anyone heard whats going on ?

Yep, Vueling is having problems for the lack of pilots. They recruited before summer and have been calling pilots from the hoding pool as well.

Looks like they will open the recruitment process again by September-October.

There are a number of airlines in Europe who are heading for a pilot crisis next year, the main problem is all the experienced FO's are leaving for jobs with the more established airlines who offer future prospects.

If you are an airline that has no pension plan, rostering agreement or direct employment then you better get these things quickly or all your experienced FO's and younger captains will walk...................... As ever low hours pilots without jet time are ten a penny.

In case you are not aware of the reality, first year salary (First Officer) at Iberia: 2400€ per month all included. (IBeria mainline not Iberia Express).
Easyjet crap deal as well, small base likely to close down any time, small network, crap staff benefits, bad roster, bad contract.

You won't find many Vueling pilots leaving to go to Iberia or easyJet, that's for sure.

What is true thow is that Vueling have recruited people with High experience (ex Emirates, Qatar, etc....).

Reason of the recruitment: fleet growth and new FTL rules...

This year 28% of applicants who were present on the first step of the selection process were offered at job...

Dunno if it has anything to do with the crew shortage, but vueling is wet leasing three A320 from airberlin for three months in the summer season. They will be based in BCN.

If you pay circus wages you get a circus... Vueling is a bottom feeder and you can expect that EasyJet and other Airbus operators are big beneficiaries of Vueling's thriftiness. Vueling will be a stepping stone for many.

You're right, FLYSWAN. It's an excellent outfit, well worth your defence.

Yes I think you probably don't know the conditions and roster in the rest of Low Cost Careers in Europe. If so I invite you to read a litlle bit more before post such stupid comparasion.

Edited. .....Dubrovnik is a seaside town, the airport is at 161m. There is a bit of terrain increase before the threshold and someone unfamiliar with that airport can easily(same as with some greek island airports) trigger a GPWS.

On topic - if I would be spanish I would not care and be happily flying for them. Positioned a few times with them as pax and must say they do make a good impression. Low cost - well, you get what you went for, what can I say. I am getting tired of this low cost carrier bashing. Because the ME carriers are that wonderful, as well most of the regular airlines are really top notch nowaday? I worked for some nice airlines decades ago, I agree, I had a very nice time there. Nowadays? Come on. Not much difference anymore between all this airlines(be it low cost or regular), and I am very glad not to deal anymore with any union pricks(sorry to say).

I do not work for them(not spanish). Not defending it, but being reasonable and not throwing stones at anyone in a public forum. Next time it might be you that is ******* up and then being put on public viewing. Would like that?

This topic is totally useless, there is no fact whatsoever (except the post of flyingswan), it is just a place were a few anonymous come here to express their personal frustration with regard with Vueling. :yuk:

Yes "tonytylor" we have understood your messages expressing your strong personal frustration. You hate Vueling. We are sorry for you.

Yes Iberia is not ideal for the first few years but long term it is. Good atmosphere, stable base(s).

Easyjet is not a crap deal. F/O earning much more than in VLG, CPT much more initially as well (then it becomes very similar). Base is doing really well and it will expand, it's far from closing down. Rostering is random but usually 5/3 far from the 6/2 they are doing at Vueling.

So you can have your own views. Reality is I know many pilots who have left VLG for EZY and IBE (and many others indeed) or are looking into it. Many went for the assessments but not many got the job. Working atmosphere and conditions in Vueling are far from being sustainable. And base? What the hell is that? It could take years for you to get to your preferred base and not even then it will be permanent. Loads of time away from base as well (sometimes months), which is OK when you are 20 but then it becomes a bit of an issue.

As somebody else mentioned, VLG is currently a training airline and nothing more. If they are struggling for pilots that is excellent news. Terms and conditions need to be improved, as well as how they treat their pilots. Only then they will stop or even reverse the flow. I know a few guys who would be delighted to be flying under their colours, but not under slavery.

You obviously hate Vueling and you love easyjet and Iberia. We can only note that your messages are very subjectives. Please stop with the "I know some friends bla bla bla", that's not valuable. best thing you can do mate is to forget your bad experience with Vueling and enjoy easyjet. there are quite a few easyjet guys in Vueling, that's life mate! Some people love blond girls, some others love dark hair girls. :ok:

The new Vueling management clearly needs to improve the pay and working conditions for Vueling pilots. The treatment of Vueling pilots has to change for if Vueling wishes to keep pilots. Vueling could hire the best pilots in Spain as there was nobody else hiring, that has changed/ as many more wish to leave. There is also poor management from Iberia with not enough coordinators at peak times, HIL items,etc. Maintenance parts for Vueling kept in Madrid. Temporary pilot contracts where they put Captains in the right seat in the winter. FO's let go in the winter with no compensation, and then Vueling expects them to want to come back. Many airlines have had pilots go to strike for lesser issues than what Vueling pilots have had to put up with. Many more Vueling pilots will leave to Easyjet, Ryanair, Turkish and China. Unless Vueling management wakes up. it will cost the airline more doing nothing than improving conditions. Not good business sense. Yes, there appears to be a training interest in having Vueling as a training airline.

Yep tonytylor and morever vueling pilots live in a cave, with no light, they eat insects, they drink rain water and when they go to work they do the pushback by themselves :p

It looks it is time for the Vueling pilots to unite, get behind their union, stand up and fight for what they deserve, with the profits Vueling has. It is time to take back what it yours. Who is taking the responsibility out there on the line? Meanwhile the IAG executives are laughing their way to the bank, on your hard work. Vueling pilots who are not leaving, be strong and firm. As a collective you can.

Nobody speaks about what is happening in Spain?... Vueling is close to lose its AOC if they don´t find a solution soon.

VLG is a bad deal to start with if you come from a flight school without hours, then the progression is (albeit not at some other operators' standards) not SO bad. There is more than meet the eye, something that you don't find in the likes of RYR or eJ. Horses for courses.

Yes there is HUGE room for improvement and that's what VY/SEPLA is fighting for right now but with posts like Iver's none will ever go too far. Stop paying attention to this character, folks.
