No, not a(nother) female pilot although her future earnings appear to be rather good!


Figures from October 2011 show that a direct entry captain for Flybe can earn up to £82,000 compared to £81,509 with Easyjet and £65,000 with Emirates.
I was obviously on the wrong contract, I mean after 8 years as a Flybe captain my basic was a lot less than £65k plus a paltry amount of duty pay. I know they had a pay rise again this year but still nowhere near £82k.

Yes, that is about right for base salary, year one. Add flight pay and Housing Allowence and it becomes More like £100k tax free.

And after three years you are looking at getting close to a command, not a move for the RHS of a Dash to RHS of an Embraer!

Also just to be picky, 25 is nowhere near the youngest lady pilots around. I flew with one 2 years ago who had her ATPL by 22.

Good on her I say, it's a bloody tough industry to get into these days, and the industry needs keen young people.
A quick look back at my year 1 EK pay packet, and not including the bonus, equates to a total of just over 105k GBP. This sum is based on what I would have to earn back in blighty to get the same cash in hand as I do here in the sandpit.

Possibly because of the, ahem, quoted salary appearing to be one of the best in the world. But then I'm always cynical when it comes to Flybe these days.

Interesting to note that her love for aviation and her ambition to be a pilot came about from being allowed up front for a landing. Not much chance of that (at least in the UK and USA) these days. Those were the good days of aviation. My kids did quite a number of take-offs and landings in the front office of airliners. Those days passengers thought how lovely it was of the pilots. Now it would be a letter to the Sun or Daily Mail resulting in horror headlines and the sack for the crew. How times have changed (for the worst)!

I can say for sure that the Flybe salary is complete rubbish.

It's just more spin from Exeter and French.
I've heard from the horses mouth that there is no real reliability issues with the Dash compared to the jet, salaries and conditions are better than Easyjet- now compared to Emirates! No one works too hard, so I guess we will ignore all the rosters that show over 100 flying hours in a month!! A 5 on 2 off constant roster is not fatiguing!
And so the list goes on.........
Guess that's why a French justifies his larger than Walshes salary, while the staff suffer from some of the worst conditions in European aviation!!!

You will find that this article originated in a local paper before the mail got hold of it, and figures inserted by their reporter. As Kate works for Flybe, I would imagine she is fully aware of their salary scale and not expecting some of the figures that appear on here.

Maybe at the peak of the boom times, but not now. Flybe's most junior captains are at least 4, mostly 5 years into the game.

those Flybe figures are a load of :mad:!

1) Jet capt year 1, sorry, year 0, is approx £66,966 with say £3k duty pay
2) but, they would never take DEC on jet, always dash, which is considerably less: £60,565 (+ the same duty pay)
3) but saying that, with the number of SFO's, they would never even take DEC on the dash nowadays
4) you're looking at at least 5 years for command as well (onto the dash might i add)

Youngest female pilot? Not sure about that. At least the article mentioned the accumulated training debt - the public need to know about the sacrifices wannabe pilots make and then have to live with in the future - especially on wages that get smaller and smaller.... :{:ugh::mad::yuk:

Gosh, those comments at the bottom of the page are very telling of the publics extreme ignorance of aviation and prejudice against women. Its staggering to read.

Not sure what your made up virtual salary has to do with this argument. 'What you would have to earn to be paid the same in the UK' has no real bearing when comparing tax free to taxed economies. When you consider your tax free status your probably underpaid. After all if it was truly tax free your salary would be 622000AED To compare with a salary of GBP 105000which it's not.

I think this may be the way things are done in the states, however in Europe, generally it's two stripes for a junior first officer, 3 stripes for a senior first officer and four stripes for a captain. No stripes for cabin crew!

What a load of tosh, this may well be the way it's done some time in the future, but at the moment everything flying around "except drones" needs the crew to fly them.
