Flybe recruitment?
Anybody have any info if Flybe will be looking for DEC this year or next?
|
If you're looking for a DEC job, you'd better look elsewhere because there's no shortage of SFO waiting for an upgrade.
|
Over 80% of the FO's in Flybe meet the requirements for command. The 175's are not being used to expand, only to replace Q4's. So unless there is a mass exodus, I can't see Flybe needing to look outside for Captains for a very long time.
The only recruitment is for baby FO's and this is done through the integrated schools and sponsorship. |
Douche Bag
You may as well do as 5 Rings says, there will be no DEC for the foreseeable future in Flybe unless the industry goes mad and half the workforce leaves. As GusHoneyBun says I can't see that happening for a long time yet. |
“Over 80% of the FO's in Flybe meet the requirements for command” Is this an exact figure? The large majority of FO's are waiting for their chance to bugger off. Many of us 195 FO's will not want to leave the jet fleet for a dash command but will sit it out and wait, add to this the fact that there will be some people leaving and many SFO's are now happy on their new pay scale and many are unwilling to head to the Timbuktu bases. DEC may happen, it can't be ruled out.
|
Nobody is ruling it out, but I would "almost" put my house on it to say it won't happen for a long while yet, certainly not within the timescale the OP is looking for.
|
If you're willing to go to IOM then who knows, but otherwise I doubt it very much.
Sorry fella! |
All,
The latest on DEC from EXT is no. Flybe prefers to home-grow its Captains where possible and, yes, there is about to be alot of movement within the industry to other airlines. For example, Easyjet, a source at Flybe said, will be directly targeting Flybe's pilots in about 18 months time (TRSS or not is unknown at the mo). At that point, it is likely there will also be alot of Command Conversions going on. It is PROBABLE there will be VERY LIMITED scope for DEC's, circa 1 per course, in about 18 - 21 months time. Hope this helps. |
Easyjet has nothing to do with this topic, they only hire cadets and A320 guys. The TRSS scheme is over.
|
But from where will they get the experienced A320 (or any other jet for that matter) guys? Especially as they're likely to lose a fair few to BA.
And how long does it take to get a cadet even close to a command upgrade? I think you may have pronounced the last rites on TRSS a little prematurely. As for recruitment at our place. In the short term, highly doubtful. Medium term? Maybe more positive. I don't know an F/O (or many junior captains) without an escape plan. And very few E-Jet guys want a Dash command. Not when the jet hours are worth so much right now. |
Wind Check,
If you check the wording on my comment it is not solely about Orange recruitment - it just provides an example and substance to how and why. My source couldnt be much more reliable tbh with you - if anyone in Flybe knows about the orange machine, they do. Also, Easy's experience with the cadets over the past couple of years hasnt been, well, easy by all accounts so they arent sure if the recruitment will be as cadet heavy when it kicks off again. Anyway - Im digressing the thread slightly; this is not an Orange recruitment thread (as you rightly say Wind Check...) SmilingKnifed is pretty bang on. To sum up: FO's: From MPL courses only for the foreseeable future (ATPL(F) intake will probably be 1 course per year) Capts: Internal only. No external plans to recruit DEC's for 18 - 21 months and even then it will be very limited. |
5 rings, bug speed et al
Whilst your adherence to the company line is admirable (with a dash of self interest no doubt) beware of being blindly ignorant. Nothing is impossible. Whilst unlikely, if say 30 skippers left for other pastures over the next 2 months. And with Jet 2, Flydubai amongst others that could happen, do you really think Flybe wouldn't employ from their pool of DECs? Of course that assumes there are any left, I doubt many are still waiting. It would be difficult to train that amount of Captains, not to mention the sheer disruption of having 30 newly minted Captains in the airline. I suspect they may have a look at a mix of new upgrades and bring in some experience from elsewhere. And this assumes no SFOs will depart. And let's be honest as far as turboprop drivers go, in the UK anyway, Flybe guys are probably towards the top of any proper recruiters wish list. And I haven't met a Flybe FO who isn't desperate to leave. |
I with Sk8erboi - DEC always a sore subject for some.
|
Since when did Flybe only recruit MPL cadets to fill new FO positions? Somebody is clearly a little out of touch with the various sponsored and mentored schemes and the numbers involved.
Makes you wonder how much of the rest of the 'facts' presented here are total tosh. |
CC, I'd suggest a discrepancy between those doing PCLAs (and claiming the 3 grand) and those prepared to leave the jet for a Dash command.
|
SmilingKnifed
Not really, the 6 last week were all Dash crews, along with a fair few others from the Dash that I know of. Remember there's 50 Q400s, and 14 E195s. |
No DEC? Then why was I able to apply for DEC over the past months when the online application was open?
|
Over the past few months? Hardly, don't you mean before July? It's because they upgraded the online application system and everyone's details were deleted so everyone (including DEP F/Os) was invited to re-submit their applications. Haven't you found it a little odd that you haven't had an interview?

MPL
Otto Throttle,
"Since when did Flybe only recruit MPL cadets to fill new FO positions? Somebody is clearly a little out of touch with the various sponsored and mentored schemes and the numbers involved. Makes you wonder how much of the rest of the 'facts' presented here are total tosh." For about the last 18 months or thereabouts the vast majority of new FO's have come from MPL courses. Off the top of my head there has been one, maybe two fATPL initials courses (if you'd have actually read my post properly you would have gleaned that). The company recruitment policy is MPL because money has been invested in it BY the company. In order for an MPL to be valid as a course IT MUST HAVE AN AIRLINE PARTNER. Any school that offers MPL but does not have an airline partner are money grabbing gits. The MPL is only complete at the end of the type rating course. As for being out of touch - the training department have the insights in order to plan our training requirements :ok: My training roster for Jan is going to be quite busy by all accounts - with MPL students. Not ATPL. As it has been for all but one of the training periods in the last 12 months. CC, SK - both right in what you say; just depends on which way you look at things (and who recruits, who gets selected etc etc). Going back to the original DEC question: with SO many SFO's in the wings, IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY (:ugh: note use of the word unlikely. Not "there will never be":ugh:), I'll say it again, IT IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY there will be DEC entry for at least 18 - 21 months. BS |
I'll ignore the email invite then. Must just be a hoax.
