I heard the 7.30hrs rest may have been dropped. I would also point out that the conditions when applying it are fairly stringent (i.e. regional operations) and seemingly only of any use in France where it's been used for years. Also with reference to the Colgan crash with respect that had nothing to do with US FTL rules. |
Granted, Colgan was legal under FTL, however fatigue (and colgan was criticized for not monitoring fatigue) was a contributing factor.
Granted part of the reason for the fatigue is the commuting culture in the U.S., but fatigue doesn't care why you're that way. Also let's be fair, the 7hrs30 may be a specific to the french operations if it's legal the crew department will say "it's legal" when they call you out of bed. Also the fairly stringent criteria outlined in the original document was a 'fatigue management system' with very little explanation as to what that actually entails. We'll have to wait till the new year for the detail. |
I am saddened by the fact that 31,000 people have complained to the BBC about Jeremy Clarkson, in less than a week. Only 12,380 can be bothered to sign this petition in months.

Al, that's because a large percentage of the public are spoon fed on televised garbage. You have to remember that its far more important (to the average couch potato), to assassinate a mans career for talking with tongue in cheek (because someones opinion has to be offensive if its not the same as a mentally retarded practice golf ball these days), than it is to improve safety and a hard working persons quality of life.

I see you are all suffering from laziness and apathy. Just let someone else do it. Well, you know what, at the end of it all there is just no one else to do it. There is just you .! Put your name on the petition. It is private. Your name won't get revealed. Even if it did, all it would show is that you told the government that you know your limits, and that to push ahead with this is not in the best interests of pilots or the public. To wait until it is in place is a far harder place to fight from. In 6 - 12 months when you realise the hot water you are in, then re visit this post and ask yourself, Is this progress or just profit. Has this profession changed for the worse, and what could we do to change this. This isn't about unions or pay - this is about your life, and its quality - and possibly it's length. |
I'm very surprised there are only 16,000 signatures. This forum has hundreds of thousands of members. I hope everyone that's against it has signed rather than moaning about it but wimping out when push comes to shove.

Who's head is in the sand here? The rules of this petition have deliberately been set in order to manipulate the least amount of signatures.
I have no doubt about the good intentions of this initiative, but ironically enough this (IMHO flawed) petition will only legitimize the regulator's and airline CEO's point of view that: 'see, it's no problem to push through these new FTL's because very few pilots care and see it as a problem.' :ouch: As I questioned before, there must be thousands more UK certified pilots out there, so why are only those who work for a UK airline and/or a UK residence allowed to sign this petition? What about thousands of Brits or UK license holder working for EK/CX/EY/KA/FR etc. who no longer have a UK residence? Again, as a concerned UK license holder I would love to participate in this petition but under the current rules I, and I suspect many many others, are excluded... Hip hip hurray for the bureaucrats and airline CEO bonuses! |
