How much does a typical IB captain earn and how much does an equivalent BA, AF, LH captain earn?
Capetonian A fighting bull lives al life that any other bull would envy: They live free, in the fieldsd, eating fresh pastures and fuking cows and they are fierce, because they have been bred to fight over the centuries, so they one day go in the arena and fight and die, with chances to kill their killer, which happens rarely, but very often manage to very serioulsy injure them. Other bulls eat !!!! and spend their lifes in a very small cubicle and one day they are slaughtered in a innoble, not entirely painless way. Bulls are fighted in France, too, by the way. |
A fighting bull lives al life that any other bull would envy: The reality is that the animal is led into a ring where it is taunted, tortured, and jeered at whilst the bloodthirsty spectators get a thrill. It may or may not be killed, death in any case is a relief, or it may be led off, knowing that it will have to go through the same again until one day it is killed. So what if the French torture bulls too? So do the Portuguese and other nations. Does that make it acceptable? You are trying to defend the indefensible. |
Maybe microbust2002 would love to live like a king during a couple of years and then be tortured in front of thousands of stupid people seated in an arena? He looks so envious to the bull!

In portugal they don't kill the bulls. In France they do. A bull is never ever fighted twice, because the bull would certainly kill the bull fighter. During the fight, the bull learns. Some learn real quick and are specially dangerous for that. Bull fighting is not like dog or cock fights. No bloodthisty crowd. People don't go to the plaza to see suffering or cruelty, nor places any bets. Actually, a bull fighter who doesn't cleanly kill the beast will not be awarded any trophy by the audience. The kill has to be quick and clean. People want to see a brave bull and a matador who fights it. What people love is when a bull does not retreat, does not fear the bull fighters, attacks with energy and without faltering, even after receiving several lance strokes or three sets of banderillas. People love when the bull thrusts the horse and topples it because it has a mighty strength and will of fighting. People feel bad when the bull retreats. Then they know the bull is not brave. Then there is cruelty rather than fight and people do not enjoy that, I can tell you. They are often sent back out from the arena and substituted by another bull. People love when the matador is getting closer and closer, his suit getting red with the animal's blood, sometimes with his own blood. Many times they receive "minor" injuries, or not so minor, and they keep on fighting the bull. In the "third act" the matador will throw himself to the bull, face to face, weapon to weapon, with a sword. In that moment risk is really high. Many have died in doing so, like "el Yiyo", whose heart was destroyed by one of the bull's horns and said to his brother "this bull has killed me" and died before touching the ground. You can do that in different manners, some of which very risky. People like when the matador chooses a dangerous way. People remembers the name of the bulls who killed a matador. "Burlero" killed Manolete. His name is in history. What is the name of the NZ bull whose tenderloin meat I ate yesterday? Brave bulls are warriors. You can think of the matador as a gladiator, but the bull is a gladiator too, a natural born gladiator. You guys think you are in possession of truth and morality and guess what: You are not in possession of any of those. Bull fighting is an art and a noble tradition and it is a beautiful thing. If you don't like it, don't go to a bull fight. As for Iberia, on what grounds do you guys judge IB so terribly? Are you IB frequent flyers of IB and other airlines? I am, and I know many of the shortcomings of IB, but has a pretty good standard, in my opinion. At first I thought it was awful, but then I started flying LH, BA, swiss, KLM... And found they were not specially good, to be honest. Finally, I don't know the figures but I think IB pilots are not better paid than BA pilots, even considering cost of life in UK and Spain. |

you have to keep the variables constant. The bull has not as many options as I have. The bull will be meat, no matter what. I ask to you: Would you prefer to spend two years in Nelson Mandela's cell until one day a man comes in and cuts your throat or would you prefer to be free for two years until one day they put you in an arena with a sword to fight against a heavily armed warrior who most likely is going to kill you but you still have a chance for killing or injuring him? I would prefer the second option. |
Doesn't this thread by now qualify for Jetblast?

To avoid the further threadrift, which I initiated, I will only say this on the topic of torturing bulls. Lo que se llaman en España 'la fiesta nacional' es, en verdad, una vergüenza internacional, los que lo practican, y mas, los que lo miran, son unos sin vergüenzos. No se trata de honor, ni de arte, pero de cobardez.
As far as IB is concerned, to get back to topic, I have travelled frequently long and short haul on IB and many other carriers. IB falls way below the standard of all other major European carriers, with the possible and dishonourable exception of Alitalia. I neither know nor care what their pilots are paid, it's almost irrelevant to passengers. P.S. : I will not respond to any further postings attempting to defend the ritualised cruelty to bulls practised in some parts of Spain (not Catalunya since last weekend). We will just have to agree that we disagree, and whilst normally I would like to say that I respect others' opinions, I cannot respect anyone who advocates cruelty to animals. And I am not a fluffy treehugger, far from it. |
Ok, but if you really want to end the discussion, please don't insult with words such as sinvergüenza o cobarde.
In most cases you would not stop the controvery but fuel it, with people mentioning your mother or something. Be in peace and leave my culture alone. |
