All these new planes..

Where are the pilots going to come from by the way?

A few of these are fleet replacements but China alone needs 1000' of new pilots.

IndiGo - 180 Airbus
Garuda - 25 ( 10 for Citilink)
Air Asia - 300 Airbus
American Airlines - 260 Airbus
Qatar - 6 B777's

from Srangeways Southpaws post
Qatar

B787 = 60 orders (30+30)
A350 = 80 firm orders
A320 = 50 orders??
A380 = 7 orders (5+2), will soon be 10 firm and could stretch to 50
Bombardier C Series = 30 orders??
Emirates - I lost count!
SAS - 30 Airbus
GECAS - 60 Airbus
Norweigan - 18 Boeing
Malaysian - 10 Boeing

About IndiGo

India has 5000 and counting unemployed fresh CPL holders sitting at home .
So there are plenty of co pilots for the time being
Huge shortage of Captains though

American Airlines
I believe all these airplanes are replacements for existing aircraft and hence wouldnt exactly need additional pilots .
Their training department is going to be very busy though

About the rest..... not sure....

New-Toy´s, no Boy´s

Most of the orders are from areas where you dont want to fly because of obious reasons you can read here in the forums. I do not want to add my previous expiriences from Far-East, China, Indo-China, India and middle East.

About the 5000 fresh CPL - holders from India, some of them have a Single Engine CPL, can you imagine the training deparment pulling the hairs, one of the reasons some of them sitting on the ground. Lured into the job and "produced" revenue + profit for the Training facility but not for rest of the people involved now and in the future.

The T & C´s in the Industry are vanishing more and more, the real income is decreasing and not growing as it should. Flying becomes too cheap, in many views.

Not some but i would say atleast 1/3 are not multi engine qualified .
Some only have a single engine and no instrument rating at all :eek:

One of the reasons they dont obtain a multi rating is because airlines like Jet Airways and Spicejet dont require a multi rating

This must be the reason why airlines like IndiGo started a cadet pilot program .
Ofcourse you have to pay for everything yourself :hmm:

There will be major growth in certain regions, asia pacific being the main one. The number of aircraft ordered in total looks impressive, but the year on year numbers will be less so although still big. From a european perspective the job opportunities particularly for inexperienced pilots from over here are unlikely to be that significant.

There is no doubt that China and India favour locals. Paying a premium for foreign captains whilst unavoidable in the short term is bound to be a target for reduction with time. If you look at parallels in the shipping industry then we may expect a migration of jobs from Europe, offshoreing which is effectively what is happening with companies like Emirates and Turkish to name but two.

The answer to the question where the pilots will come from is that ultimately they will come from wherever they can be sourced most cheaply, which is almost certainly not Europe.

in the case of emirates matter, they introduced pilot training for non nationals now, so i guess there is a link to it. But yet again, they don't ensure you a job once completed.

ask your dady for t/r and XXXX hours of line training, and PAY TO WORK until the airline kick you out for the next idiot who believe he will get a paid job!
