SXS Commute

I am flying with some Co-Pilots who where in AYT with SXS and they had difficulties to get sufficient time off in between to go home frequently.

A late arrival followed by: OFF, early STBY, flight duty...... Then you have a day in between to get two hours a day. They are happy to keep you at base, just in case. When they talked with the Scheduler they had all kind of excuses not to get sufficient consecutive days off for commuting.

But the summer season is coming and supply and demand can assist in getting this in the contract, you do not ask, you do not get it?

DutchExpat 9th February 2012 14:05

Commuting abroad not available 3 days off with rest day before and late start afterwards once a month. You are home everyday if you can move with the family it's a great job.

Sunexpress job

I would like to know how to best apply for a job in SXS.

I have 2400 hours on the 737 and is living in Antalya.
Unfortunently I don't have a turkish passport or money enough to get myself a 737 rating (I already have a valid one…)

Would they even consider me?

Any relevant comments is welcome

DAF

daf 11th February 2012 17:36

Thanks! I will try that

aozc 22nd March 2012 20:16

Yes that seems to be true, they're opening new bases in Turkey and all the people I went to the assessments with were turkish citizens. I'm still waiting for a date to start my type rating.

Does anyone have any experiences with regards to taking a loan for a TR with a turkish bank? :E

Closing Base

The German part of Sunexpress, SXD, is closing its base at Berlin. The new Airport has the price tag flying high. Not enough opportunity left for yield.

Transfering the risk to companies and stuff the earning into the pockets of the Airports to fill the gap in the Budget? I would hope more companies would have the balls and stop to go there to show that politicians drifted off so far from what the Citizens really want. Lobbyist´s are trying to force people into a direction where the convinience and the common sense get´s totaly lost.

SXS and SXD are still growing. Keep applying, just be flexible where to go.

Is Sunexpress still recruiting F/O's and if so how true is it that there only taking on guys from stello aviation in holland?

What can we expect on the Interview, the sim, and the tests for the FO position if you have 250h?

Can you make it clear, what to know, is it an advantage to know turkish and so on?

Thank you

Boeing Europe 26th March 2012 22:42

Hi All

Does anyone know if Sun Express is actively recruiting 737 experienced FO's..?

aozc 27th March 2012 03:20

My turkish isn't that great but I'm a citizen and I've completed my military service so it was fine anyways.
All experienced F/Os that I know has not gotten any replies after filling the form. It seems like they only want inexperienced F/Os unless you come from the military.

First you do the Mollymawk test and the TOEIC or TOEFL iBT english test that you pay for yourself. If you pass it they will call you for a sim assessment. If you pass the sim you have the interview. Everything is quite straight forward.

some info

Hi Guys … Just a few points here (very quickly)!

We are not in Europe here.

It means different FDT: 1000h/Year and up to 14H duty/Day (and pilots are really doing this)

Minimum off days per month: 7 (2 X 2 days in a row plus 3 single days) … So forget about the commuting unless it is specified in your contract! They are only offering a commuting contract if you are willing to be based where not even the Turkish pilots wanna go!

There is this in the contract: “The Parties hereby agree andaccept that in the event the Contract is terminated by either Party on thegrounds of unjust cause, the said Party shall pay the other Party a penalty feeto the amount equal to the aggregate of the wage of the Employee for thenon-performed duration of the Contract.” … So be careful what you are signing!

The flat rate is 85h. The hours in excess of this are paid at60% … Scandalous! This is why we flying 110h/Month or 300h/3 months!

During the summer, your roster is constantly changing!

Your monthly roster is published very late (something like the 29th)

Your annual leave is only confirmed the month before (how can you book holidays in those conditions?)!

International school cost about 900€/Month per child and the company doesn’t pay a penny for this.

Language issues with the airport handling staff … Safety issues during push back (not SXS staff).

Now the good points:

Living in Turkey is not bad: good weather, fresh food and friendly people. As I said, the only issue is the language (and maybe the way they are driving J).

A shuttle is prearranged to pick you up at home for everyduty (great especially as an expat).

The company is quite organized and the staff is very friendly. The management is quite human and the door is always open to discuss aboutyour problem (I did not say they will solve it J).

They have a lot of respect for the captain: You will neverhave to justify yourself about fuel, diversion, …

Just my 2 cents … Hope it helps! :)

goalex 22nd April 2012 15:55

i have interview with SunExpress where new bases are offered:Trabzon,Adana,Gaziantep,Elazig and Diyarbakir.Which of them is acceptable for western familiy with 4 years child ? And can you choose it or they just offer "take it or leave it".
How does Commuting roster like?
Thank you very much guys for your answers

DutchExpat 22nd April 2012 17:52

Stay away from DIY and EZS

ph-ets 22nd April 2012 23:16

yes it does

Avenger 23rd April 2012 13:20

Not recruiting experienced FOs and commuting contracts are not available at the bases AYT/ADB/SAW. The " new bases" are mainly to support growth associated with the THY operations.

aozc 23rd April 2012 16:04

Avenger, do you mean that these bases are only temporary?

Avenger 23rd April 2012 19:57

AOZC, The " new bases" may or may not be a long term situation as the market in Turkey is changing all the time, who can say, but if they close a base they will simply move the crews to other bases... of course if you moved back to ADB/SAW/AYT the contract would be a non commute. Typically 2 double offs and then 3 single days, although you can request a Triple off once a month... problem is that it is usually early starts after days off..

Akrep 27th April 2012 12:15

Doesn't the mail mention you need to organize and pass a mollymawk test on your own accord and mail them the results??

Akrep 29th April 2012 04:55

I'm on a different boat then you, but I would contact their HR department by phone if I was in your situation.

aozc 8th May 2012 07:19

F/O or CPT?

B737Dude 16th May 2012 22:23

I've got turned down 3 times unfortunately due to my Military status in Turkey! Is there anyway of getting out of National Service? I've lived all my life in the UK but because I haven't worked more than 3 years and paid tax I can't pay off the €10,000 :/

Thanks

aozc 17th May 2012 14:45

I thınk ıts possıble to hand ın your cıtızenshıp somehow but that would probably cause problems durıng the ıntervıew and alot of hassle wıth workıng permıts. For how many months do you have to do the servıce?

B737Dude 17th May 2012 20:48

The reason sun express is giving me the opportunity is because I'm a Turkish Citizen! It's a 15 month service unless I work here full time in the UK for 3 years paying tax and national insurance to be eligible to pay off the national serivice which is €10,000! Otherwise wait for RYR! But they have slowed down the recruitment as there is no more expansion! So it could be a veryyyy long wait :/

canyol 18th May 2012 06:22

I've been invited to sim assesment for June. They have also mentioned available bases are Gaziantep, Diyarbakir and Elazig at the moment.

Akrep 18th May 2012 06:24

Some tips: the turkish state doesn't want you to prove you are currently working for 3 years or 1000 something days, past employment is also accepted.

But to answer your question the only way out is being rejected for service due to health issues. :/ god forbeit that.

despegue 18th May 2012 07:19

Just pay a doctor to declare you medically unfit...happens everywhere so i am absolutely sure that there are ways to do so.
Although i am against this kind of evading your responsability, i do realise that the military duty is a problem for a lot of young people that have grown up abroad.
In Russia for example, the service can really break a young man. Better to pay and get your unfit papers.

B737Dude 18th May 2012 17:10

I've thought about declaring my self unfit but then my Class one Medical is at risk and also the airline wants to see the paper work signed off by the local military office! Which it says due to medical reason then I turns back against me!!

captplaystation 18th May 2012 18:57

I offer you a simple solution. . . . .don't get involved with Turkish companies.

Sorry if I offend you (as you are Turkish) but I heard too many horror stories from colleagues employed previously by Turkish companies, & my short time employed by one, was not exactly trouble-free either.

aozc 18th May 2012 19:58

What's the optıon then?

Take part ın the Ryanaır lottery where 7000 cvs are ın the database or pull your pantalones down at norwegıan and practıce the oldest professıon known to man kınd? (was usually done by some women untıl lately)

SXS ıs quıte a good outfıt ıf you can move there but everyone wıll not lıke ıt.

Avenger 18th May 2012 20:17

Military Status...there are a few FOs that are still to meet this obligation, they can wait until after their 3 year contract is up to do this, some plan to work abroad for a few years, some plan to pay and get a reduced military obligation of 6 weeks.
The last " bulk intake" was from Stella Flight Academy, but now there are some new Turkish FOs as well.
Failure/ rejection rates at interview and sim are still high.
Istanbul, Izmir and Antalya bases are not available now, even for DECs. There are about 2 FOs a month in the upgrade program and 8 are just about to finish Upgrades now at the SAW/ABD/AYT bases. Good start to a flying career for FOs if you can get in..

working for free

Hi guys,

This is the system (policy) of SXS In Turkey.
You pay 30.000 euro's for the type-rating.(normaly type-rating costs 19.000 euro's profit SXS 11.000 euro's)
You get 1 Year contract.
After 1 year you will be kicked out because there are other guys who are waiting to pay fly for free.
You have earned 25.000 euro' s in 1 year.
Profit SXS 5.000 euro's,+11.000 euro's from the type-rating total profit SXS 16.000 euro's
Who is smart you or SXS?????

Kranich 20th November 2013 16:17

SXS needs pilots

SXS is growing and looking for pilots, both F/Os and Captains. Even with the DGCA's ambition to reduce the number of foreign F/Os SXS has kept all of them (exception: Some FOs had the option to go directly to THY) and will employ even more flight school graduates.
I am not an expert here but until now I have heard of nobody being fired after 1 year just based on some policy - as I said, they need even more pilots (this excludes possible terminations of contract due to low performance - I don't know of any such case but maybe there are some).
My personal impression is that flight school graduates see it as a good investment to pay for their type rating and then fly at least 500, most probably many more hours at SXS on an aircraft that is one of the most popular on the globe. Their alternative is either going to Indonesia or waiting for aviation in Europe to recover from the economic crisis.
After some years, yes, SXS may manage to replace those foreign F/Os with locals. But then the pilots leaving will have a good experience and nice reference on their CVs to continue their careers at other airlines which would have never given them a chance as fresh graduates.

Kirks gusset 21st November 2013 15:33

Flaps 35, your figures are well off the mark… The NL guys that joined earlier that could not go to Indonesia have all had their contracts extended. The type rating costs includes line training sectors and all company conversion courses, most of the guys now have 500 hrs plus and will have close to 1500 on Type after the contract extension… i.e they are very employable. Most type ratings in Europe do not include base training and line sectors. With overtime they are earning at least 50K euros net in a year..

kick the tires 21st November 2013 16:25

Sadly, the most employable guys are those with zero hours and deep pockets.

B00N 25th November 2013 12:54

Did any of you past the selection this year (2013) and did anybody started working?
I passed selection in may and no job jet.

Clandestino 25th November 2013 19:25

F/O or DEC?

Kirks gusset 26th November 2013 14:53

According to the "Rumours", which are usually correct! about 48 new FOs will start over the next few months, mostly from Stella NL. About 35 FOs will transfer from AYT base to SAW, mostly Dutch guys, some will wait until after the upgrade to come. Contracts are " one year" but the crew will not be able to go to THY mainline after the contract, and given fleet expansion, the contracts will almost certainly be extended ( according to performance etc etc). There is a debate about licence issues at the moment, one school favours Turkish DGCA the other EASA retention.. as with THY mainline the big feet are kicking towards DGCA licence. Possibly after the type rating is endorsed they may request conversion to lower on-going training and checking costs. In the end, it really comes down to getting hours, getting paid and then looking at 3/4 years ahead. Even in CX you fly on HK CAD ticket not JAR/EASA, the old system under JAR allowing more than one " State of issue" is now gone, but the option to opt back to your " mother state" is always there if the carrier changes.
