How are your night duties rostered?
Just out of interest, and to make a comparison, how does your company roster night duties?
I've done (several times) a night duty this summer (probably to return next spring) that involves a (usually) 22.00 dep 4.15 block hrs out, hour on the ground, 4.30 block back, on blocks 07.45 ish if it goes to plan. Personally, I find this a very long night because 1. it is a long night and 2. it drags into the next morning so much. The problem is made much worse as we often get rostered this after earlies and lates. eg 05.50 start 2 or 4 sectors, 06.00 start 4 sectors, 12.30 start 4 sectors with 2200 -2300 finish then the night duty. Might be strictly FTL legal but I think this sort of stuff is fatiguing which you could argue then makes it legally dubious and I have refused twice this summer just gone. How are your night duties rostered, in isolation? after earlies or lates? Interested to know before I start a conversation with management about this rostering in prep for next year? |

Your Part A will define Early, Late and Night.
Just a punt here, but if your first Duty starts at 0550, you have been gifted another 23:50 off to start? or be on a variation? Read your Part A 7. Definitions. Slip in the fatigue word for sure. tired, maybe....................It is a hard life nowdays |
Thanks Boardcounter, you are right it was not the best example as we wouldn't normally start a week at 05.50 but there was a legitimate reason that week. I should have used a better e.g.

Try this one;
2230(L) report. 1st sector 4.2 hrs, 2nd 1.0, 3rd 3.1, 4th 2.5 arriving back at 12:25 next day. Total duty 13:55. Brutal... |
Holy cow...

CAP371 gives a max FDP of 9 hours with a 2230L report. How can you be rostered a total duty of 13H55M?

This is in Canada. Totally legal.
