Pegasus B737 t&c?

Does anybody care to share what are conditions at Pegasus. There is an ad in new Flight Int. and all you can find out is that base is in Istanbul.

VorlocGreen 3rd November 2009 08:08

I am out of the country so cant get to a copy of Flight, Could you tell me if the ad is for Captns or FOs?

Many Thanks

VG

captplaystation 3rd November 2009 13:13

VorLoc Green, no worries the job is on www.flightglobal.com in the jobs section. A bit difficult to acess that section from my computer today , but it was in there posted on 28/10.
The ad is only for Capt's, historically most F/O's have been locals.
Hope this helps, cheers :ok:

CAPTAINNIC 11th November 2009 07:28

so.. does someone know the terms and conditions?

salary, per diem, schedule, offdays, vacations etc?

thanks

skyeuropecapt 12th November 2009 04:09

Hello captainnic,

At the moment Pegasus offers 5900 EUR net plus 25 euro/sector.(average 40sectors/month) plus per diems.
So you can count on about 7000+net which isn't bad.
I passed their interview in October but decided to go with the airline who first interviewed me after Skyeurope went down.

They are recruiting Captains only with 500 hrs LHS.
Sim is of a good standard and interview very friendly.Theres a psychometric test and an home made english test...remember..the mother of your grandma is your great grandma rather than your grand grandma:-) even if she weren't that great or if you never met her...:ooh:
Many ex skyeurope pilots are going there and only time will tell if they will like it...but it seemed quite a nice outfit..definitively the interviewers were quite nice folks.
The contract is for 1,2 or 3 years at your choosing and the low side is the 28 days of holidays are only available after the first year , the roster is 5 ON /2 OFF.
Staff tickets for wife and family. They provide transport to and from your flat in istanbul.

Hope that helps,

regards.

Heard same from a friend who's friend is turkish captain with Pegasus.
I would like to know if they pay any extra for accomodation to expats, and how much one need to rent a flat (let's say 3 bedroom).
English school should bearound 500e per month per child.

skyeuropecapt 12th November 2009 22:32

incognito,
didnt hear the magic word:E

Aussie 13th November 2009 08:50

I think he means PLEASE:}

skyeuropecapt 14th November 2009 02:34

Incognito,
Thanks to Aussie, the answer is no, no expat accomodation paid for.
nor a dental plan,function car,yearly raise,children school fees...its a contract work..so you fly ,they pay and you go..easy:suspect:
BUT they will give you a job long enough for you to jump to some better when the market picks up.

Good luck,:)

737incognito 14th November 2009 08:20

skyeuropecapt,

thank you very much for your kind answer.

What you said might be truth, but there are some outfits which give hotel room or acommodation allowance. I admit, these are mostly non-european.
Also, if one does not have a job, than it's like you said: join and wait for better. But, if you want to move from one job to another, it's good to know if it's worth it.

Acccomodation

Anybody else going to Pegasus. I am interested in finding a place to live. Anybody have contacts in Istanbul, Asian side?:ok:

housecarl 18th December 2009 09:34

Boeing737sr
In Istanbul on the Asian side I would recommend the area close to bagdat street and Bostanci. It's a street full of restaurants and a some bars. You also have a long asphalted sea walk if you feel you need to exercise.

From here you can easily take a small mini bus (dolmus) to Taksim (city center) or several other places. It's also close to the sea bus station: Bostanci, from where you can go to the European side and Ataturk airport (IST) without being bother by the infamous Istanbul traffic.

You will be f***ed by the price if you come as yabanci to look for a flat, and not many agency speak English. Ask someone from pegasus office to help you. If they can't help you I have a number to an English speaking guy.
Take a flat without furniture and buy new stuff at IKEA. Because the one with furniture are often way more expensive and the standard of the furniture are often very low.

DME11.2 18th December 2009 13:13

Good work Boeing737sr!:ok:

What are the bases for pilots at Pegasus? PPJN also mentions BRU & AMS, is this correct?
Good luck finding a nice home!

Boeing737sr 7th January 2010 07:54

Bases

As it seems now the only base available is Istanbul.
But who knows if that might change later on. Rapid expansion going on here.:):)

captplaystation 20th April 2010 20:43

Just to revisit this, as they are recruiting again, can anyone who went there last time around confirm,do they really only give the 7 days off a month promised ?
They also say the days off are split 2/2/1/1/1 so no chance at all to go home (if home isn't Istanbul) for 1 year either, as no Leave during 1st year.

Any better news than this, did anyone manage to get (say) a 50% / 66% contract for less money, any news of other bases coming up ?

This sounds only doable if you are willing to move everything, & everyone in your life, to Istanbul, or become a hermit for 1 year.

Brian304 20th April 2010 21:01

I can confirm that they used to have people in BRU (approximately 1 year ago), but don't know if that is still the case, though it wasn't reccommended by them to stay in BRU as it can be very expensive.

Most cadets stay in the radisson SAS by the pegasus office, capts, long term wise I would look for accommodation, you can probably speak to some letting companies, though they may ripp you off a little.

P.S. Radisson do some really nice egg desserts...

HighToLow 20th April 2010 21:25

What are the requirements?

I'm a turkish citizen with a fresh fATPL, do you think i have a chance?

new national regulations demands 500h MCC for new flight deck crew who are foreigners.

Brian304 20th April 2010 21:49

A turkish citizen with FATPL, maybe you should apply for there cadet course, though it'll set you back some money for the TR and line hours. Or there are alot of other low cost turkish carriers out there like sky airlines who may be recruiting...

captplaystation 14th June 2010 17:45

Heard a rumour that the 7 days off in a month could now be taken in one block instead of 2/2/1/1/1.
Just a rumour, and of course they have to stick to it, but if they manage that it will surely widen the appeal to include those who don't want to move families to Istanbul.
Like Turkish Airlines , who offer the same non-commuting roster on the 737, they would have more interest if they actually managed to arrange for peeps to go home. 20 days work is more than enough to do 100hr block time, why not give 10 days free and at least you could have 8 days home.

Not everyone wants to move their families that far SE in "Europe" ;)

A321COBI 14th June 2010 20:20

If there is no accomodation then I would leave it
istanbull is super but not a place I would work and live in

sunturk1 2nd September 2010 19:06

Dear RTO

This thread is about expat captains not TRTO F/O's. Foreign direct entry captains are only hired since the beginning of this year (never happened before in history). So your quote about firing them when they have enough locals is totally incorrect.

MAGAGGIARI 3rd September 2010 10:44

If you are a low hours pilot STAY AWAY FROM ALL TURKISH COMPANY!!!!
you must obtain a paper called VALIDATION in order to work there and if you don't have 500hrs multicrew they will give you it just for 3 months(time for training).
But if you ask them(dgca) they will answer that Turkey is part JAA,so there is not any restriction about hours.....

sunturk1 6th September 2010 12:41

Dear Rto
Hmm not long enough you say.. Just had a look at the seniority list. There are 142 Captains of which 41 are foreign. 160 F/o's of which 25 are foreign. That makes a total of 302 pilots. So when I look at the date of joining, I am within the first 40 so I think I can safely say that I am here long enough. Again I want to repeat that this thread is about Captains. Fo's.... well that's a whole other story

TeHoroto 7th September 2010 23:19

Sunturk1, Pegasus were hiring and firing foreign Captains as far back as the mid 90's. Despite that it is a great fun country to work in!!

Boeing Europe 16th August 2012 10:26

Anyone have any idea how to get in touch with this crowd for experienced FO recruitment e0mails etc would be much appreciated

Kirks gusset 24th August 2012 16:06

Pegasus is now planning to get rid of all non-Turkish pilots, including Captains. The need for Captains will be met by upgrading the Turkish FOs and employing new Turkish FOs..

captplaystation 25th August 2012 20:05

The words "p1ss-up" & "brewery" come to mind.

Turkish did this & binned people 1 day short of 1 year (no holiday pay ) into a multi-year contract, & then, 6mths later, found themselves undercrewed (yet again) & had to run loads of Ads. Problem for them is that most people had by then seen through their "long-term contract" lies & gave them the cold shoulder.

What price a shedload of Pegasus ads again within a year.

jamesIST 26th August 2012 03:02

Unfortunately this is the mentality of all all Turkish management. "If we have enough of our own people then get rid of the yabanci" It is very short sighted especially with the continued growth of aviation in Turkey and I have no doubt that there will become a time in the not to distant future when they will be under crewed again.

A great place to start your career but certainly not a place to stay longer than a couple of years due to the complete lack of loyalty from management.

dignified 18th September 2012 03:09

Working in Turkey

It is not a rumor, it is a fact. The only days off you get are the mandated by DGCA for rest period requirements. This is not a graceful act on your contract
Turkish airliners, named Turkish pilots do not know the meaning of DAYS OFF. The majority are ex-military servants who are mission oriented. They were first thing up for managers to hire but they ran out of supplies. They never raise an issue or request days OFF in fears of being sacked. Foreign pilots hired are brought into this culture to fit in or face disgrace. There is no concern for your family or lifestyle. Turkish culture is about work your ass, and try to work for an outfit that pays your salary. Forget benefits or any other perks you get in a civilized culture. There are no unions here, the management is xenophobic and sadly to say, Pegasus is the backyard of THY. All pilots fired or pissed off from the flag carrier end their career making Sabanci more rich and aggressive for competition. The hiring of expats is to help them practice their English level which is about 90% of them and hardly level 2. You are better off learning Turkish as this people are not educated despite the efforts made from Ataturk over a century ago. So if you are desperate, have no life and dying for manti and kofte welcome here, there is plenty to learn from this proud crowd of monkeys playing European.:yuk:

Icelanta 22nd September 2012 23:25

It is clearly you who is the xenophobic...Get back under your rock and remain in New Zealand if you can notmhandle other cultures:mad::rolleyes:

RTO 23rd September 2012 11:13

Icelanta: This has nothing whatsoever to do about xenophobia, what a daft attempt at siderailing the discussion. PGS has treated their expats like sh#t in all their years in existance, If you want to claim that as turkish culture I guess thats fine. And when in comes to roster stability and days off. PGS rosters come out on a weekly basis, usually around the tuesday of the week its valid for, by thursday its unrecognizable. Good luck planning anything around that if they donīt chuck you out the door for not being Turkish first. Noone should take a contract with these guys, and as the word is spreading you have to be extremely desperate to do so. In a lot of western countries you are better off unemployed.
