Ryanair annual FDPs question
 
Sorry to start another RA thread but I seem to remember reading, (and I have tried a search) that Ryanair can get more than 900 hours a year out of some crews? is this true or did I dream it? (nightmare I mean) and if it is not it is not a suggestion:sad:

Indeed Ryanair "persuaded the IAA" that rather than doing the accustomed thing and interpreting the 900 hour limit as a rolling one over any 12 month period, they should instead run it from 1st April to 1st April, thereby conveniently resetting the clock to zero in time for the spring increase in work, which seems to be the current trend (no doubt due to the high leisure flying content of the customer base).
So, courtesy of that "interpretation" of JAROPS, one could of course complete 100hrs /month in the 6mth leading up to 01/04 & then another 600 after 1st April and achieve 1200hrs in a 12 mth rolling period whilst remaining (well for the IAA at least :hmm: ) "legal".
In practice, this has happened (or certainly very close to it ) in the past, but is most unlikely to happen again following the recent trend to "encourage" taking of annual leave during the winter months , combined with "awarding" everyone a period of 1wk - 1 mth of unpaid leave during the dark months. And of course, as the date chosen is 1 April, it can not happen at a more "productive" time of the year, but I am sure someone in an office in the whitehouse is beavering away trying to earn a bonus by coming up with another "cunning plan" :rolleyes:

Here we go again. In most companies you have april to april. This is how the lawmakers have written the rules. Capt Play! Do you want to correct them or just nag at RYR? It is a good thing to fly a lot during the summer months and less in the winter, believe me. 100 hrs in July is not the same as 100 hrs in in December. If you do a lot of hrs May to Sept you can not do a lot of hours in the dark period. I have never had any problems in RYR flying to much or felt tired:ok:. But I guess it is just me:cool:/Teddy

No axe to grind whatsoever, I was always lucky enough to be based somewhere that it didn't get to that stage, but historically some were less fortunate. As I clearly stated, it won't be a likelihood anymore unless something changes, but if you feel the need to rush and defend them . . .well, what to say :hmm:

I don't think so.

April to April just makes a complete mockery of the whole idea of 900 hrs.

Typical Ryanair.
Typical IAA - weak.

When is a year not 12 months?
When is a week not 7 days,
When is 6 months not 1/2 a year.

All questions to be addressed to IAA. Their answers will be different to Mastermind or the Oxford English dictionary, yet they issue ELA ratings. Curious.
