Qatar B-777 Captain
Hello! I understand that Qatar is starting to crank up for interviews. After going through the fiasco of Korean Air and Air India is still trying to figure out what they are going to do with their new 777's, it may be time to go back to the sandbox. I have already flown for Gulf Air and know what to expect for the region. My only question is weither the Brits still control the interview process. They are okay except that they love the "who cares" technical questions. The arcane information was important when you took the JAR/FAA ATP test in your twenties. Now, it is only good for bar bets. Thanks for any information you can give me. :D

Sorry, can't answer the question about Qatar, however I find the 'who cares' technical questions coment interesting
I have a friend who was recently interviewed for a 737 command position. He was asked about hydraulic failures and what related systems could effectively be lost with either system A or B. After answering sketchily, he replied he would consult the QRH. The interviewers agreed, stating that's what any professional pilot would be expected to do, however they also implied that they expected someone with considerable 737 experience should infact have a certain level of understanding about the aircraft that they fly, especially when it related to it's major components. Not saying that this may be he case with Qatari, and I certainly agree if they start asking non-specific questions that have obviously been hand picked from something like the 'Ace the Techncal Pilot Interview' book. I would imagine you are implying that this is the case. Anyway, best of luck |
HI...several ex colleagues have passed on the Ace the Interview advice...I do agree that if you have experience on a type and fuddle an easy question, it may send up a flag. Having been the interviewer on occasion, it's an easy one to spot, and most guys bail out with the QRH answer.
