Salary is one thing, but I'd take a pay cut to have a roster

Flybe £25000 FO salary, £1600-£1800 per month depending on duty pay after tax. Otherwise good T&Cs

silverknapper 16th August 2009 10:57

And how exactly is that bad?

I'm Off! 16th August 2009 12:03

What do you mean "how is that bad"??? It is entirely possible to earn that as an unskilled labourer, or working in an office. Neither of which require large inputs of your own money, and neither of which will kill people if you get it wrong.

I know the guys joining Flybe tend to be low hours guys, but that salary would put everyone else off. If they were hiring anyway, so I guess it's a moot point.

Someone clearly needs to look around an open their eyes if they think flybe t and cs are bad for a regional operator. Try looking at eastern Air south west or highland by comparison, you are well looked after. Do you have a company pension? yes. Is your starting wage more or less than twenty grand? more.. Do you have opportunities for career progression in your company? ie opportunity to get jet time, yes. does your company employ direct entry captains at the expense of making fos redundant, instead of upgrading? no. All sounds better than eastern. I agree it would be nice to earn more. Careful tho, you might get some US regional crews replying too, who would love to have flybe's conditions over there. At the end of the day we all do it because we enjoy our jobs and take what ever opportunities are offered to us and make the most of them. Eastern has an excellent working atmosphere, and very few don't enjoy working for them or have happy memories after leaving them. Pay and lack of pension leave a lot to be desired, but how does living in your home town, working Monday to Friday, with the occasional sunday, earliest report six in the morning last aircraft in nine twenty in the evening, average duty day under six hours, and home within often half an hour after landing to a great social life. No "us and them" culture, everone helps out in the cabin on turnaround, it's very friendly. Money isn't everything, although with a sizeable bank loan to pay it helps.

Tablet of stone my arse.

They use the removal of 5/4 as a threat if Balpa is recognized.

Tablet of jello more like...

The flybe jet salary ain't exactly a fortune either, and the duty pay remains poor at £1.90/hr, taxed. At least the type is top notch, but that and half decent t&cs, is about it.

Confirmation Bias 16th August 2009 22:11

I said the Flybe T&Cs were good, the salary is just very poor. You cannot compare them to Eastern, Flybe is one of the biggest airlines in Europe now and carry more domestic UK passengers than any other airline. Their salary should reflect that instead of them relying on the whole "we are a regional turboprop airline" line to justify their low salary. They have 700 pilots afterall, is that a regional airline or a major European loco?
