Right to work and live in Greece

Hi Northern Goose,

It looks like you'll need an EU passport otherwise you have to confirm you have the right to work and live in the EU i.e. married to a Greek Goddess or European...

Anyone been called yet for interviews? Direct or via Parc?

Parakalo

tracker999 10th September 2009 13:18

Haunted dog, 8000 euros for CPT !!!! which contractor are you talking about? Parc offers me less than 6,000 euros!!!! is there any other contractor offering more? pm me if you prefer.

haunted dog 10th September 2009 14:49

you are correct, it is TRI captain 8000, FO 3800, + 1000 housing + 700 per diem
:ok:

the_bookkeeper 10th September 2009 16:55

Could you enlighten me about the expected deductions from the salary (tax and Social Security)?
Thx

Kirks gusset 11th September 2009 15:31

Employed-- about 4000 euro Captains and 2500 euro FO, or so the bloke at the airport wearing an Olympic uniform said!

OXOGEKAS340 11th September 2009 15:50

Concerning the jobs offered as pilots (Commanders or co-pilots), you must take in account that today, tax is 15%, and and next year tax will rise to approx. 35-38%. No one guarantees minimum hours, but as far as i know, average will be at the 60 hours range. Therefore money in the pocket for an experienced commander, will be around 5.5k net, down to 4k for an un-experienced commander. For co-pilots, numbers are less.
Please take in account, that life in Athens is very-very expensive. For a small app. (80sq.m) you must pay approx. 800 euros, plus 100 electricity, 50 water.
Super market for one person, app. 600 euros. So there isn't enough to send back home.... You must lease or buy a small car (which you can sell later), and fuel is at 1.1 e per liter. The airport is 25 km from Athens, so a 50 km "trip" must be considered.
Going-out with your wive or girl-friend, for dinning, not in an expensive restaurant, will cost app. 50-60 euros. Of course this can rise up to 200-300 easily.
Take those notes in account!
As an "old" 340 commander, I will not "sell" my experience for this money. Although a pilot, i will join HCAA as a SAFA.
Good luck to all of you!:)

He has done it again with the new Olympic and the Q400. Unless he made a substantial back hander it was the wrong decision. Even FlyBe is getting rid of them, and I am sure that they were very happy to lend a hand to Olympic.
Hmm, with statements like that I think it's you that knows nothing about aviation!!

Coppi 12th September 2009 17:04

Please bear in mind that in Greece by statutory requirement you will be paid 14 monthly salaries per year, so that will increase the numbers quite a bit!
On the other hand, I wonder why so many ex Olympic A340 pilots were not offered a contract with OlympicAir following their interview.
These pilots could have easily converted to the A319/320 after a short course lasting about 4 days with minimal cost.
Instead, B737 pilots were offered jobs and were sent to Toulouse for more than a month to do a full type rating.
Something sinister must be behind it, me thinks!

OXOGEKAS340 12th September 2009 19:52

COPPI, your info is not right....
As captain on 340, I can assure you that most of our captains on 340, were "job offered" by the "new OA". The problem is that salary is not as it should be, and taking in account that salary in the HCAA is much higher, none of our commanders signed the offer, prefering the security of the State owned HCAA.
Today, the leader of the opposition, and future prime, told to the media, that all "specially treated" tax payers, as pilots, will "loose" their advantage of paying tax at the range of 15%, meaning that this will rise to 40%.

jet.man123 13th September 2009 15:41

The numbers are just being pulled out of a hat, there are plenty of pilots willing to work as Cpts for the 4500 e and FOs at 3200, so why on earth would they pay Parc more.. this is a fishing exercise. The Greeks get 14 months salary in 12 plus holiday pay etc, with block hours its about average, but not 8000 e basic for the Cpt.

OXOGEKAS340 14th September 2009 19:51

Βecause numbers are numbers, let me give you some of them....
For a Captain of more than 15 years, (there are three "stages" of captains, one up to 5 years, with basic salary 4200 e, the second with up to 15 years , with basic salary of 5200, and the third one, with 6200 euros), here is the net salary...
BASIC 6200
Tax (15%), 930
IKA (social security) 400 (may be more)
OGA (another form of tax), 200

NET 4670 (money in pocket)....Add some 800 for hours minus tax, and you will receive appr. 5100.
This is with 15% tax, which after 2009, will rise to 38%.
In this case NET income will be 3244, plus hours, which will rise the amount up to 3700 range!

Forget the 14 salaries, after the new year......Economics in Greece are not in good condition....

I can't imagine the net salary of a new co-pilot!

OXOGEKAS340 14th September 2009 19:53

QUIZ....Who told to the media, last year, that "paying with peanuts, you buy monkeys"?
:ok:

Vortex Surfer 15th September 2009 09:57

Terms and Conditions Olympic

Well, there are defenitely no "Golden medals" for Captains at Olympic, whether DEC or via Parc. Only 950 euros more than an FO. They must be really short of FO's...or Captain's responsibilities are really underated! No wonder why Captains don't rush on this offer! Sounds a bit more interesting for a young FO though. How about DHC8 LTCs and TRIs? If they're going to be on 8000/mo. it has to be "all inclusive" which means 2000 more than a Captain's salary.

the_bookkeeper 15th September 2009 10:08

I have attented their interview. Funny company, looks all a little bit uncoordinated. Anyway, there is a psychometric test with some silly questions and the rest of the questions is very obvious. There after you are talking to 2 guys: 8 days off/month, salary for F/O on the dash: app. 2100 net plus flightpay 700net (70 hours), makes a total of 2800 euro under the current tax situation. No chance to commute, you have to move there.
I think the deal with parc,... is better, becaus you earn more money there and you are getting housing allowances there.

dabam 15th September 2009 13:06

Can you elaborate on the obvious questions? Is there a coordination joystick included in the psychometric test? What type of questions did they ask you in the face to face?

the_bookkeeper 16th September 2009 08:20

The only thing they asked is why I left the previous companys. It was me who asked more questions, for example about T+Cs and staff like that. The psychometric test only consists of questions, which you have to mark true or false. An example of questions: Are you often tired?, Do you feel lonely?, staff like that.

dabam 16th September 2009 20:51

Ok, thanks for that bookkeeper. Nice to know what you can expect :)

PollyVFTO 28th September 2009 17:25

Job

Did someone already have a result from their interview??
If yes what is your experience?

Thx

hawkerpilot 28th September 2009 18:58

scam at olympic

I spoke to several people who have had a "dear John" response from olympic today. Not because they were not qualified, on the contrary, all had several years of command experience and were typerated, but because they have been used by olympic to push their current crew "over the edge" to join the new olympic. By showing to their own crew they had enough" newcomers" coming to the interviews, they could put pressure on them to accept the new, lower terms.
This looks like a huge scandal , abusing outside crew for their own benefit, letting them pay an expensive ticket and hotel. Give them 10 minutes interview, then let them wait for 2 weeks to give the answer.

And if you look at the date of today, it makes more sense: today exactly was the day they change over to the new olympic and the day the deadline expired for the old crew to join the new olympic.

honest pilots looking for a job, used for political purposes...shame on you olympic:=

Flyingstig 28th September 2009 19:11

I`m really sorry guys! I applied to Olympic after the first ad and was qualified 737NG AND A320! Never got a reply.
All I can say is that after almost 40 years in the job almost nothing surprises me.
Why do we do it? .................. Because we are gifted with something that not everyone has.
Will we keep doing it in spite of the hardships / growing lack of respect / declining T&Cs? ....................... Yes! ...................See above!
Do they deserve us? .....................No!...............See above!
Can they succeed without us?.....................No!
Ultimately you and I do it for ourselves............ our own standards......... our own belief in ourselves............ and the passion ............see above!

I dont know how your Latin is but............
"Nil Illigitimi Carburundum!"
Translations welcome!!! :ok:

did anbody else get any response on the interviews they did directly with Olympic? And what about Parc? did any body got hired via them?

With the info I got from someone within Olympic, I would not be surprised to hear what is posted above. Would be sad though, if this is the way we get treated...

Airbus_a321 29th September 2009 09:33

@hawkerpilot
the same "procedure" they used in AerLingus, I guess 2 years ago or so, for the BFS base :yuk:
to be honest: the ticket was for free!

coolhand1 29th September 2009 11:15

Couldn't more agree with you hawkerpilot ! Got the rejection email yesterday and so did a couple of guys i met on "interview"

It always amazes me how employers expect the highest level of professionalism from their pilots but they behave the lowest possible way at the same time... Won't approach this outfit again...vhat a disgrace...even wish them bad:E:E

Stratobus 29th September 2009 12:03

It is all political here, new elections, delay in PSO routes, "new Olympic" be doing old Olympic PSO routes, management working as consultants in other airlines as well, under table deals, so nothing is being new in Greece. But I do know that Olympic MIG are being told to resist contract pilots from Agencies that earn much more than local pilots. We think they should use contract peoples until all crews trained, then bye bye. Not enough crews to operate all routes yet! Big pressure on old Olympic pilots to accept reduced conditions or look at perhaps no work..Government has open to rationalise new Olympic MIG, so this may change things..But..nice planes now..

cupoftea 30th September 2009 22:29

Makes me wonder if anybody who did go to the Olympic Interview actually got hired? Or did everybody get the same message?

Next question that comes up is: If this has been the policy from Olympic from the beginning, what can eg legaly be done against that?
I mean, expectations are being raised by advertising in Flight, that is a possible chance of a job.You expect a fair process. You spend eg 700 euro on tickets, hotel and a new suit...If then from the beginning they had no intention to hire anybody, but use it as a political means of pressure against the old workforce, then surely this is deception. You promise something you know you cannot deliver. You sell a tv you know that does not work...

Surely someone with more legal knowledge than me should be able to explain that....

And than perhaps people can join to get a stronger case against Olympic, not to get that job, because as said above, you don't want to work for such a company, but to make a point that treating higly qualified, professional pilots like trash and deliberately waste their time and spend their precious money for those who are un-employed and looking for a job....should not be accepted, nor be allowed to happen again!!!

Bealzebub 30th September 2009 23:04

I think it is called Caveat emptor!

quickturnaround 1st October 2009 06:36

Forget the Greeks!! Look at the Turks instead, they need a bunch of 737NG and A320/321 riders!

hunterboy 1st October 2009 06:46

Something about "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts?"

captplaystation 2nd October 2009 21:28

quickturnaround

please see my post in the Turkish Airlines thread, and do a search for the one that was on here 6 mths ago.
Same crap different colour, no jobs have been given here either, and pilots appear to be getting used as pawns in a political chess game.
They may be the best of enemies, but they are both behaving the same.

aristoclis 2nd October 2009 21:42

Gentlemen,

Refrain from generalizing. Subject is Olympic, not Greece. Olympic management, not Greeks.

Aegean Airlines employs 50+ (almost 20%) non Greek contract pilots with far better T&Cs than for the Greek pilots. So would you be so kind...

Fair point.........

So what is happening with the original Olympic Airways? What will happen to the 737 fleet and the A340s? Cheers.

Tolan 16th October 2009 13:16

Did anyone who went for an interview with Olympic get a contract?

tracker999 16th October 2009 15:35
