Ryanair DE Commands

I mistakenly posted a request for info on another forum, which is not for experienced pilots so I will try here.
I applied directly for DE Command on FR website and also through Brookfield.
That was over a week ago and nothing heard from either source. Does anyone have any experience of this and info re timescale etc.
I was also told by Brookfield that if I wanted it Stan. was a good likely base. I now read elsewhere that there is a freeze on all UK bases in FR.

Can I please ask that this not be used as an opportunity to vent spleen or `slag off` FR or its pilots. It is a genuine enquiry from someone who is looking for a job, preferably that gives some kind of home life!

FL470 24th June 2009 12:34

You expect a reply time of less than a week. With the current abundance of pilots - and therefore hundreds of applications - it might take them a little longer...

lorel 25th June 2009 09:50

Hi,
I don't want to put you of but I heard that they might not take de captains anymore or at least as possible and do mostly upgrades within the company.
I hope for you they haven't enforced that policy yet. Good luck!

AI101 25th June 2009 11:03

the new policy is for all recruitment and promotions also with balpa looming they are not taking anyone from the uk to a uk base (gives balpa one more vote) hope you find a place soon

Bruce Wayne 25th June 2009 11:25

Is that an official policy, unoffical policy or hearsay ?

TheBeak 25th June 2009 13:35

Are you saying that their policy is to not allow British pilots to be based in the UK to avoid BALPA? Where have you heard that?

BongleBear 28th June 2009 19:59

no, basically they've said no pilot who is currently based in the UK can leave their base and no FO's based in the UK can get command. i'm sure if balpa recognition doesn't go through then they'll scrap that immediately to 'thank us'.

to answer the original question, we're still taking on direct entry captains, plenty of OCC's going through at the moment. in fact, it's only cadets and 737rated captains being recruited.

hope that helps.

Bear,
Thanks. Could this be the first hint of good news?!

Willing to sell soul 29th June 2009 11:58

Good news?......

Not if you're an unemployed experienced 737 rated FO or a UK based Ryanair FO with 2900 hours.....:ugh:

Bruce Wayne 29th June 2009 14:35

if you're UK based FO with FR with 2900 hours be thankful you have a flying job, or you would be the unemployed FO with a 737 rating, but looking overseas for work and it's tough everywhere right now.

Callsign Kilo 29th June 2009 15:27

Ryanair (via Brookfield) are currently hiring DE Capts and conducting OCCs. I believe 737 (EFIS) time including PIC is essential.

Word on the vine is that the internal CU process was not as sucessful as they would have liked. It will continue to be unsuccessful until they start defrosting things in Britain!!

However the lack of growth in the UK is down to the £10 APD tax, according to Mick :suspect:

LAX 1st July 2009 22:36

I am appauled by the way the company is treating F/O's 2900hrs+ in the UK. They have done nothing wrong yet are being punished - no upgrades, cu courses, line training and appointments canceled - yeh they sure are gettin a taste of the medicine from management in Dublin. Thats a great way to say thanks for your loyalty. Nothing but political and more punishment when those from bases outside the uk turn up in the STN crewroom for cu line training.

The companys answer is to recruit DE entry captains from some tin pot airline in Eastern Europe, the likes of which would never have passed the command process in RYR with their low hours - the RYR course is tough. There is no extra training.

To all those frozen F/Os in the uk get as many hours you can and then vote with your feet when the upturn comes. Lets see those shiney boeings grounded.

"If you are FO with bla bla amount of hours, be thankful you have a job".

How about if you are some management clown and work for the FR circus be thankful that you have Pilots keeping you in a job.

Ryanair in treating crew badly shocker!

For which bases are captains being recruited?

Falcone 2nd July 2009 12:30

Please, no bull!!!!!

Last DE Captain who passed Line Check few days ago is ex Chief Pilot from EU national carrier.

LAX, if you carry on with this stile:

"The companys answer is to recruit DE entry captains from some tin pot airline in Eastern Europe, the likes of which would never have passed the command process in RYR with their low hours - the RYR course is tough. There is no extra training."

I will ask moderators to remove you from PPRUNE. Becuse you have racial problem.

All the good old intimation of being a management shill, because i don't subscribe to your views.

If you are a pilot that is so easily intimidated, you shouldn't be on the flight deck.

if you are that unhappy with your T&C's the LEAVE, walk. you know where the door is!

But you wont will you. Why because you know and i know there are literally THOUSANDS of pilots out there looking for a paying job, guys and gals with time on type, line experience, stuck in hold pools, looking for a right seat job in anything.

This thread was started by flyingstig regarding DE positions. One of the guys/gals out there with experience, that are stuck, by no fault of their own in a situation when flight crew recruitment is damn low, due to an economic situation that is no fault of theirs.

Don't throw your little back biting snide comments in this thread and attempt to infer I am shill, address it with me DIRECTLY.

But then, you are an intimidated pilot.

If you are so passionate about the subject, make a stand, quit, join another carrier, let one of the guys and gals with expiring currency, desperate for a flight deck position take your seat. But you won't will you because you know that you will be joining the thousands looking for a position in any of the 4 corners of this planet.

Classic !

BW

How about "if you are so Passionate", instead of leaving, stay and vote for change.

Apologise if I came across as insulting you about being management.

Once the flight deck door closes, I can leave all the intimidation behind. I can assure you I am a very safe operator.

Back on thread - there are a few DEC in the middle of line training currently. I must ask them if they are interested in joining BALPA - in my own time of course, can't risk instant dismissal.

You are missing the point, i will pm you and take this out of the threads.

No offense taken, I have skin thicker than an elephant's a*se.

good to hear, though as i am sure you are aware, commercial pressure can induce and has induced operation outside a crew's comfort level. (that's another thread i am sure)

that would be wise, however, DEC's are capable of making their own decisions, with their own opinions and i am sure would have heard of BALPA at some stage of their careers.

check your pm.
stay safe.

LAX.
As the person who started this thread and who would be very glad to work for FR either directly or through Brookfield, I would like to point out that I have over 17000 hours most on jets and about 9 or 10k as captain.
I have trained multitudes of cadets onto modern jets with a few hundred hours under their belts.

I do hope that this enough experience for you!!
Otherwise its shelfstacking in TESCO`s for me!!!!

PS to those F/O`s with 2900+ hours who are now feeling cheated out of their commands, think on this. "Do you want to be quick Captain or a good Captain"? I had to wait nearly 11 years, and every day that went by I learnt something I wouldnt have seen if I had been in the other seat!!
Your day will come!
