Roster Stability
Gents
I have the opportunity to sit down with Rostering and management next week to discuss introducing some Roster Stability Guidelines. I have the usual ideas like Roster Stability Window, no 24 hour rest periods, no single days off... Does anyone have any ideas of simple rule tweaks that could lead to better rosters? All sensible suggestions much appreciated  |
Block window has got to be one of the best thing. A rostered duty starting and finishing at home base can only be changed if it 'fits' in the following time frame: original report minus 2 hours and original end of duty + 2 hours.. If it does go outside even by 5 minutes, you can choose if you want to do it or not. no questions asked. This is great for roster stability!

Couldn't agree more. Desperately want 2 and 2 (currently 2 and 4)
|
Agree that makes our rosters more stable, but the question i get from the bean counters is "How does that benefit the company. Stable rosters are inflexible rosters."
I need a good argument to that? |
you're right : stable rosters are inflexible rosters
the strong argument to justify stable rosters is that flexibility leads to abuse, increasing dissatisfaction and finally escape of pilots to better places. flexible rosters mean instability in human resources |
Crundale,
Why don't you contact BALPA HQ and ask to speak to someone in the Thomsonfly CC? Fred. |
Fred
Might be more worthwhile speaking to Kathryn Jones Head of Scheduling at BALPA. She will be able to give a more balanced view from an understanding of the agreements across a wide scope of Airlines rather than just one. :\ |
Sure. Makes sense to me.

Ryanair
5 earlies, 4 off, 5 lates, 4 off. No night stops. No through the night flying. :)

CHC Scotia 50/50 roster
5on 2off 5on 9off 5on 2off 6on 8off or 7on 7off. Crews fly up to the helicopter maximum of 800hrs on these patterns even working 182 days per year. A full time job that gives you half the year off, I think Bristow also have the same roster pattern. The above patterns enable crews to look ahead by a year and plan the live accordingly.:) |
