Easy Jet Paris Base
Does anyone know the outcome of the base set up in Paris for Easy Jet flight and cabin crew which I seem to remember became the subject of a judicial process (after the offices were raided by local inspectors) against the company due to non compliance with French rules ?
|
A compromise has been reached, with a pseudo French company set up.
And, I am guessing, why they are not basing crew at CDG/LYS, but nightstopping UK crew instead. |
WRONG AND iam not guessing...
|
Ok, what happening to the paris base then? How are the crew paid, what's the french contract like? Also what should be the base of preference in terms of tax? Is Spain or Italy any better than france to avoid having to pay too much in taxes? Thanks
|
Cabin crew will be based in CDG and LYS, Flt Deck will not, but will nightstop from other easyjet bases. Presumably it is cheaper for the company to pay HOTAC for Pilots, rather than French employment taxes. What this will mean for the OLRY base only time will tell.

All french residents will definitely get a french contract. The company wouldn't be going through this sort of ordeal if they weren't planning to keep us in France for the long run. The plan is to base about 12 aircraft in CDG. Pilots will be based there, it's only a matter of time. Hotels aren't that cheap, even in Paris... |
YES
true you have already the choice cdg and lys are available on the application form...(PILOT). |
hi,
Could the pilots based in france give us the lowdown as it stands for the time being? Are you making the same money as guys in the UK in terms of net salary? Are you still under UK contracts for now before a french contract is laid out? Should it be assumed that french crew will be worse off in the future because paying more taxes? |
For now we are on the same basic than UK pilots, and we have a UK contract. The difference is we pay french tax and NI. Difficult to compare net salaries, as income tax in France is highly dependant on individual circumstances, but for a single person, overall net pay would be lower.
We have absolutely no clue whatsoever about what the french contract will be like, and it is starting to really piss people off in Paris. The lack of communication is annoying to say the least. For the moment we have only rumors. The cabin crew know what they are going to get, but understandably they are priority, given the imminent opening of CDG. It has filtered that we may have to operate under french FTL's, due to the fact that the contract will be french. Time will tell. |
Thanks Zeubman! Awaiting training I still have the opportunity to change my base preference at my leisure. I am considering Madrid. The spanish salaries quoted on the website are pretty attractive. Again would there be a clear advantage to be based in spain as opposed to france in terms of net salary?

FBOZH, make sure you fully check the rest of the contract though!!!!
|
FBOZH, maybe you should talk to Balpa about this one. They are recommending easyjet pilots, that are currently on a UK contract, not to accept the Spanish contract!
|
hum, thanks, I will talk to balpa, I am a member after all. Is there any paris or lyon based pilot out there willing to share their experience of their base with us? Regarding paris orly or CDG, can we consider living "Intramuros" in the city center to enjoy parisian life and commute to work or do people normally live in the suburbs closer to the airport? How about lyon, is the quality of life there any better than that of paris for a french who has ties in neither city? Thanks again,
|
FBOZH
Remember, pilots won't be based in LYS or CDG initially. (this positioning nonsense will stop with the beginning of the summer programme I guess) For ORY, most pilots live in the suburbs, but most CC live in Paris. It's a matter of personnal lifestyle choice. Be carefull with that spanish contract if you are offered MAD. |
thanks for the replies. If I was to accept the spanish contract, couldn't I change over to the UK contract if I ask to move base after a few years? I imagine the option is always available since we all operate under the same AOC unlike our swiss friends.

Any of you green enough to not see what local contracts result in, please appraise yourself via here, the FR website or anyone from FR you bump into, of the Ryanair business model, or rearrange the following words, . . . . wedge end thin of the.
|
A quick math on the internet converters gives me the following:
77 260 GBP = 107 645 Euros: captain's pay in the UK 46 843 GBP = 65 264 Euros: F/O's pay in the UK In spain the website gives respectively 125 000 Euros and 72 000 Euros for captains and F/Os. The tax system may be different but it appears one makes slightly more in Spain. Can someone give details of other benefits available in the UK only? If there is a pension, is it any good? Thank you |
Think taxes and social charges are a lot higher (for employee and employer) in Spain so you take a lot less home. Best check with BALPA, as I believe this is a source of some disquiet with them. It is part of a big big question mark concerning the "business model" of (among others) Easy and Ryanair particularly.
