DHL Standby
 

Does anyone who's been to a DHL(UK) interview know whether they do standby's or not, and if so for how long? Also what types of hotel and board do the Brussels guys stay in when down-route, I assume it would be a similar deal for the UK fleet?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question.

I would like to ask, however, about the status of the DHL 757 operation in East Midlands - is it up and running? Have pilots been hired and trained? If not, what is the expectation for timing?

I remember all of the initial hype surrounding the new 757 operation at EMA - I just haven't heard much since....

Any news or timing expectations?

I was at the interview last month but didn't ask about standby's and present employer prevented early release so I couldn't join.

The operation has 4 aircraft worth of pilots on their books. Some are currently at the sim stage and others are flying the line with Britannia.

The EMA complex is complete but only partially used at the moment.

Apparently there were some quality control problems with the first 2 aircraft which were being converted by Boeing in Israel. They've now solved the problems but delivery has been delayed by a couple of months.

It all looks to have great potential.

The first UK registered DHL 757 arrived at EMA about a week ago. More than that I don't know.

Can't answer directly regarding DHL, but at Air Contractors we do have some standby duties for DHL, usually of a maximum of 8 hours duration. If you are in the hotel you can stay there, but if you arrive in say BRU with perhaps 4 hours or so of standby left then you usually have to remain in the sumptuous? surroundings of the EAT crewroom.

Hotels are of a good 4 (occasionally 5) star category, with breakfast included.

(As to my comment re the BRU crewroom, it's like a 0 star transport cafe, only worse!) :)

A/C is parked in EMA awaiting issue of AOC, so I have been told. Rumour has it that the requested duty roster is causing problems at the CAA. Looks like they may be forced to operate according to 371.

I understand that there will be a requirement to live within 90 mins of EMA for UK based crews.

The contract does indeed require the employee to live within 90 mins of EMA or otherwise seek suitable accomodation for the previous night.

I have a copy of the contract if anyone's serious about joining.

Sorry for the delay fellas but I've just got back. To all those who've e-mailed a request for a copy of the contract, unfortunately I can't find it on my system and guess I've deleted it by mistake. As far as I know they're only looking for rated pilots at the moment but as the pools dries up those suitable non-rated guys will be recruited. As they need to crew 23 aircraft by early 2003, I would guess there'll be plenty of jobs to go around.
