Engineer 14th April 2001 01:11

Lufthansa Cargo

Looking for information on the interview with LH Cargo

Also FE pay and conditions on the 747 fleet and any other useful info on the company

Thanks

wonderbusdriver 14th April 2001 14:21

One guy posted DM 9200 a few months back - so he was at the interview. Try the "search"-button.

The lady at personell told me gross base pay DM 9500 (after all deductions expect 50% of base pay + probably 20% of base tax free) about two weeks ago.
Should be 13 times per year.
That´s for 73hrs block time, above that ca. 120% of 1/73 per hr as overtime. (I think they´re flying between 75 and 80 hrs block)

Sorry, don´t know what the interview for those FEs is like.
Don´t know what those contracts are like either, so the numbers above could actually be different.

10 days off min per month, 34 per quarter.
Roster changes due to aircraft breakdowns and changes in schedule on 742.
Depends how "flexible" you are, and what your flying is like now.

You´ll only fly cargo - No chance of getting into the pax company.

CPs age range ca. 35 - 60 yrs.
Morale in the plane should be pretty good - otherwise on 742 cargo its "so so".

Company is in good shape financially and they´re desperate for crews...

WBD
Thanks for information greatly appreciated

Reimers 17th April 2001 23:36

And don't forget that a 35% wage rise is currently being asked for at Lufthansa et all not only for the pilots, but for the entire flight deck!

wonderbusdriver 18th April 2001 13:52

Reimers:

That´s true, but...

DM 9*00 p.m. is ca 50% above the starting salary of a "regular" (last on the sen-list) flightdeckcrew already.

We´re talking temp-contracts here, where they have to negotiate pay on their own. - Outside of our current war.

Good luck "Engineer" whatever you do.

Wonderbus

A bit off track here but I've heard that you Lufties can rent a car from the compagny to go home and back to work. Is this substantiated information and if yes could you explain me how this works, cost, what happens when you leave for a 2 weeks holliday etc.
Danke dir.

wonderbusdriver 20th April 2001 21:52

wallabie

True, you can do it in FRA, MUC and HAM (I think thats all)

Cheapest model is a Ford Fiesta size - costs DM 29,- (for 24h) incl. 200km (or so...) and all insurances (vollkasko kann sein mit DM 300 SB).
Types go all the way up to Ford Transit size or Jaguars and somewhat higher prices.

They used to have 2 Porsch 911s which they rented out for ca. DM 200,- incl. 200kms (or so...) and all insurances (vollkasko OHNE SB).
The 911s needed new tires every four weeks and where more or less wrecked about every three months...Not any more - never managed to get one.

The whole thing is called "Car Pool".
Was cheaper to set up than build new parking space - that ´s why they started it.

And here comes the good part...
Just called them
(+49 69 696 6744, 6745, 6832)
to confirm it:

ALL airliners can use these cars!
You need your company ID, driver´s licence and VISA or Mastercard
to rent these thingies.
They´re located in the P43 parking lot past the LH main entrance gate #21.

I might actually write a post about that, with all the numbers etc., because they unfortunately don´t have a website...

In response to 'Engineer', are LH still in need of experienced B747 FEs, what are their requirements, and is the crew being hired via an agent or direct by the airline?

I've had a lot of cargo experience, and prefer it to pax, even though the workload is higher!

Tks.

wonderbusdriver 21st April 2001 23:08

jonno:

It´s Lufthansa Cargo - 100% owned by LH but a seperate company from the pax airline you know.

I´ll call them on Monday, talk to the right folks and find out as much as I can - wasn´t an agency as far as now.
Could still be the case, they might need people.

Grüss dich Wonderbus

This sounds incridible and thanks a lot for the info, I'll sure make use of this.
Can you tell me if a lot of you guys use this system ? And isn't it a bit expensive if you stay away from base let's say a week between 2 flights ? I know my outfit is inquiring about this because parking has become a daily battle now and we're not to see a new parking lot before 3 years with the number of people we are hiring right now we'll have to pile the damn cars on top of one another.

wonderbusdriver 22nd April 2001 12:19

wallabie:

Very many use it.

Figure out the total monthly cost of owning and maintaining your car, and you´ll see if it´s expensive or not.

We should keep this thread on topic, so send me an email to:

[email protected]

and I´ll give you more details.

wonderbusdriver 23rd April 2001 12:13

jonno:

Just called them - They still do need FEs for 747-200 cargo.

Mrs. Saskia Patzek ([email protected] or +49 6107 777 552 - that´s also Mrs. Mosandl´s # who´s in charge of personnel, so don´t be surprised if she answers)

is in charge of the applications/paperwork for the FE-applicants.
Send her an email and she´ll send you application forms etc.

Mr. Krug (+49 6107 777 747)

is the "manager" (that´s what Ms. P said) in charge of the FEs.
He should be able to tell you about terms and conditions.
Just call him and ask...and give as some feedback here, on what he told and how he treated you.

Good luck!

balu_777 25th April 2001 00:54

Servus Wonderbusdriver,

have you got an idea, if the PAX mainline is looking for ready entry F/O's, too. I've heard the selection process is quit different from the "ab-initio"-DLR tests.
e.g. cheyenne simulator screening, no psychomotoric aptitude tests, ... ?
Would appreciate any info you could provide, thanks!

wonderbusdriver 25th April 2001 10:51

ALL LH-companies are desperately looking for direct-entry FOs!

The selection process is basically similar to the ab-initio test except for the sim ride and how they judge your "performance" (check out www.pilots.de and call LFT for exact details).

Same test for DLH, CFG and LCAG and it can only be done once.

The career center´s website is:

http://www.lft-online.de/englisch/nav/frameset_in.htm

Requirements for pax DE-Fos are the same as shown for cargo.

Bear in mind, that you´ll be treated (seniority, progression and pay !!) just like an ab-initio no matter what experience you have...
Gross pay is ca. the UAL-pay - only in DM instead of $.

I posted a lengthy "analysis" of the career in DLH in all companies some weeks ago on pprune - Use the search function and "dig".

Good luck.
