Hours and working schedules - SHORT HAUL
HI everyone
I am a PPL trying to get to my CPL/IR with a dream of flying an airliner one day. I have always heard about money, benefits, requirements, hours needed etc.. but do not really have any idea of what the "typical" week (if there is such a thing) actually involves on short haul european routes, such as Easyjet or Ryanair. Over the course of a month, what are the sort of working days like, i.e. days working, days off etc..start times, finish times, nights away I know it all depends on flight times and you can bid for what you get, but there must be a rough guideline etc...... I would be really grateful for any ideas Thanks Spitfire747 |
Hy,
11 off-days. average 55 hours per month. Approx. 40 sectors 5 to 8 night stops. Operating the Saab2000 out of Basel. Good luck ! |
Minimum of 10 days off a month.
65-75 hours flying each month. Anything from 2-4 night stops in European/Domestic hotels each week. (British Airways Shorthaul fleet.) |
33 days off per 3 months.
85 block hours per months, 5-7 N/S per months. |
Thanks alot, you have all beena huge help

Well liked this subject so much i also wanted to reply!
I have recently changed employers but with my last employer I flew: -About 120/140 Block Hrs. in summer -had 36 hrs off each week. -and got 28days off per year incl. weekends. -anything less then 950 hrs. Block per year was a mistake in planning;-) But the paycheck was "ok" and did fly 737-700. I must add that this was charter and not lineflying. So greater blocktimes per day. Grtz Stall |

'got 28 days off per year incl weekends'. Weekends alone are 104 days per year, so do you mean that you got a total of 132 days per year i.e. 11 per month, or are you as confused as your post made me? |
As per April new rostering agreement: 6 days work, 3 days off, plus 4 requested days off per annum.
Hours anywhere between 40-90 depending on month and basing! It's from the Orange Company... |
How about in the US:
Garunteed 11 days off per month. Sat reserve for two months and flew ten days out of the 60. Garunteed pay for 75 hours a month, anything over was above garuntee. Held a line and was gone from home roughly 18 days. |
Hi Birdstrike!
What i mean with 28 days off incl weekends is: If i take f/e friday till tuesday off, i have to take 5 days off. not three because there is weekend in the middle. In the real world when you take a holliday you can take 5 days off to get a week of vacation. So 28 days is not much:-( Grtz Stall PS. I must add that we have alot of offdays/stand by in winter but they are offcourse not counted as vacation days. |
what's average pay for new blood, fresh with a frozen atlp ?
