Well done Emirates Recruiting
EK hired another Dash 8 Captain with only a few hours on jets, other guys with several thousand widebody hours and current on 777 or 330 don't even get an interview.
I feel embarrased by our recruiting, the good old Mafia is still here. |
Good to see they went with the skilled aviator then!
|
Got the address for their recruitment office; I've got Bronze in gliding (good for Air Canada positions so I've heard!) and am part way to PPL. Oh, and I own a copy of MS Flight Sim (2000, not the latest one)
Giz a job!! |
Was there any doubt if "the good old Mafia" ever left??? Ant skid you must be just what they are looking for but remember you have to do a whacko profile test so bone up on your inner feelings - and if you really want the job get an Ozzy accent - it will help a million.

If what you claim is true then the FAA will get confirmation of what they already know.
|
If you have 2 pilots in a room, 1 flies a Dash 8 the other a 777......who is the better pilot. If you always pick the 777 pilot than I am glad you do not run EK recruitment.
|
Last time I checked, 330s and 777s were not that demanding to fly! You don't hear of too many transition course failures with any of the airlines.
So do EK want a good pilot and good bloke that meets the minimum experience requirements, otherwise they would not be interviewed, or a total plonker with loads of hours? All airlines around the world are looking for good pilots that will fit into their corporate culture. Not just any old mate who happens to have 15,000 hours. Look at your current airline and I bet there are bunches of people with lowish hours that you would recommend to potential employers ahead of some of the more experienced mates. Its not how many hours you have, its whether you have the ability and the motivation to fit in!! And just to finish, life isn't fair otherwise I'd be an astronaut, a millionaire and married to Michelle Pfeiffer. C'est la vie! |
The Dash-pilot might be the best man for the job.
But how will they know if the others don't get an intervieuw? Maybe his poetry in his application-form is irresistable. |
Whaooo!
What the deal here? I might be the criminal who has dishonored the ranks! I'm a Dash 8-400 captain. I'm starting in Emirates next year. I've got 6200 hours total. I've flown 2200 hours FO on B-767. You try a command on a turboprop in northern europe when winter sets in. FC. 18/19/18 VV200' x-wind 8 kt in SNSH....and you just lost HYD 2 system....what are YOU going to do.....no it not a sim ride, friend. See you on the beach! :) :) :) |
Well, good luck to you and congratulations Payscale!
Winter-ops in the sandpit sure beats the same in Scandinavia. Life and work there, will be quite different from what we in Europe are used to, I´ve heard. You have the right attitude and credentials, it seems. Never look back. Have a happy 2002 and a REALLY good time in DXB! |
This is all a storm in a glass of water. :)
Some guyes fly props others jets. That doesn't speak for the individuals captaincy or aeronautical skills. [ 02 January 2002: Message edited by: Nite_Flite ]
|
Payscale,
Good job! I love the Dash-8-400 - it is a beautiful aircraft with an advanced flight deck! Do you know which fleet at Emirates you will start on? Did you have a preference - were you given a choice? Cheers |
Hi L.D.
No there is no choise of aircraft. I'll be on the A330/340. :) :) :) :) |
Well done Payscale, and if they ever do need PPL's to 'upskill' you know where to find me!!
|
Payscale,
Congratulations on your new job. When you get here, don't pay any attention to the few tossers that have forgotten what it is to start off in a new job, and have also taken for granted how good this job is. Granted, there are deficiencies and faults, but no job is perfect. You will enjoy it. All the best. :) |
PROPS are for Boats. :)
|
Payscale,
Just been asked to attend the selection process process in the near future. Can you e-mail me with the proceedure and any good pointers, hopefully then I can buy you a few beers one day. Do you know if A330 type rated folks are kept on or do we get the chance to go on the 777?? Thanx's |
prop stands for propellor, all modern aircraft have them in one form or another...some are inside a shroud/casing, some are external....

Fans are for airconditioning...
Congartulations Payscale! And I'm happy you were able to stop this bashing that this topic had in mind. Hope ther will be more replies like this in the future. Cheers, Supa. |
Payscale, the A330 is a fantastic aeroplane! You will love it! As for the A340, it has 5 APUs!!!!
|
Thanks for all the support! I'll work hard, as I'v always done, and be a team player. SAS, where I work is a great airline. But living conditions in scandinavia are just to hard. 62% tax of the last krona and darn cold. I can't wait....8dagys and counting!! :)
|
Welcome to Emirates, Payscale.
Well said "Bird On" with regards to Tecos statement. |
Payscale could you e mail me i lost yours?
7 days and counting mate we'll meet... cheers. G |
Well, it could be "payscale" or it could be a friend of mine who started on the Dec.03/01 course. I'm sure you are correct in the assumption that there are plenty of heavy drivers out there who could be hired before a prop guy is. However, the bottom line is is that those persons might not be the individuals the company is looking for. If it is my friend that you are refering to, then let me say this. First and foremost, he is a great guy and very personable. Definitely someone you could spend long days with a not feel like you want to kill him at the end. Secondly, he has proven skills in all facets of flying and is well thought of by all the senior Captains at his last company. After spending three years(approx1500hrs) on the 146, he upgraded to Captain on the Dash8. If you've ever been to the maritimes in Canada, then you can appreciate that the weather here promotes and cultivates fast and sound decision making in the Captains. I hope you have the opportunity to sit down with him and have a drink(please dont feed him rye or rum tho')I'm sure you'll find him to be a suitable co-worker!!
