It depends on what you are going in as? Captain, First Officer, permanant or contract. For permanant positions the recent ppjn entries on salaries are pretty accurate. At the moment there is a fixed roster at some bases which is being brought in on a trial run basis. It's a 5/3 5/2 pattern. Personally I can't see it working with the current crew shortages. The company is very short of captains at the moment.

As a place to work, it really depends what you are leaving from. There is a very high turnover of pilots at the moment due to the current healthy market. Most leaving to easy, monarch, thomson, netjets etc. If Aer Lingus start looking at pilots from here as part of their current recruitment it will probably clean the place out. If you are entering as a captain you can expect to work anywhere between 70 to 90 hours per month, which works out to be in the region of around 65 sectors. The company itself is a typical regional carrier type organisation. You will be flying into small regional airports with small and narrow runways. Can be interesting when wx not the best. It can be very disorganised at the best of times, where you find that you are regulary having to ring operations to get the basic things done. The company is getting ten new aircraft over the next three years so they are investing a little in the future.

A319-100 18th March 2007 17:28

They need to invest in new aircraft! There was one sat on the ground in EDI all day today- supposed to be the outbound RE464...Any ideas what was wrong? Crew called tech!

I hope you have good First Officers at air arrann because here at Aurigny some of my FOs (not all of them, thanks god) are extremely bad !! they just can't land the aircraft and after their heavy landing they tell me " the ATR72 is a difficult A/C to land" but I immediately answer them "is it the A/C or is it the F/O ??" :} :}

Also, another problem with some of my F/Os at Aurigny is that they have a very poor CRM !!! They are just F/O and they don't seem to understand that the captain is THE boss onboard, and so the one who takes the final decision is the captain and not them !!! They make some amazing approach (3 reds seen o 4 white sometimes !!!).
Anyway, Some other captain are crap also ! but hey, everything depends on EXPERIENCE !!! :ok:

So long !

Mister Geezer 18th March 2007 23:33

Aurigny CAPTAIN.... you made me laugh! You certainly don't expect us to believe that you are a Captain for Aurigny? Looks like you are having a dig at someone somewhere - who knows?!

Do believe what you want my dear ! We are so many skippers that you won't find out who I am :E
And I have nothing against anybody, I am just saying that ATR FOs are  sometimes. Maybe it is the same at Air Arrann ?

Dear Finals19,
Thank you but I have no prob with CRM.
Nevertheless, It seems that you don't know anything about "leadership".
In every airline companies in the world, the leader is the captain. That's why we get a higher salary ;)

738aviator 22nd March 2007 12:42

My understanding or CRM is that we devide the flight deck equally, let me tell you I have flown with capt's who were !!!!e and I ended up changing their minds for them from time to time.

Yes you are the capt but you are not my boss.

Well, let me see...last year I had about 500hrs of "leadership" time. Yes the Captain is "leader" if you want to put it like that, but you are now starting to deviate from what you originally said.

In a two crew operation, the "leader" is no good if he doesn't have a good relationship in the cockpit with his co-pilot. Believe me mate, in my formative days of line flying, I certainly saw the rough end of aviation and have endured some fairly hair raising situations (engine fires, full shut down etc) and if I hadn't had (as an FO) a decent guy sitting to my left that I worked WITH and not FOR, then I wouldn't be here today to tell the tale...
