Can you guys help my mate out.
Currently a Captain £100000 pa (UK Charter) plus 20% pension of which employee contributes 5%. Loss of licence. Medical. Good routes/slips/aircraft and happy in his job and also very senior though not in age!!
His wife wants to move to EK for lifestyle change, private schooling, sunshine and better way of life away from scummy UK.
Not his scene to *iss on other F/Os to join as a DEC however that aside whos right. Mr or Mrs?? One worders are fine and a small explanation for them either way would be great. Ta

Let's see- she wants to live in the sun and dump the kids in school so she can roger the tennis coach while he's off at work.......or stay in a life he's extremely happy in? Hard one. Agree with gas-chamber.

Young kids - go and enjoy the lifestyle and potential for more exotic family holidays - get them started in a good school.

Elder kids - don't bother - they will be bored sh!tless.

Women going for money and not caring for anything than their own luxury will always dissapoint in real life. Dangerous to start a family with monsters like that :uhoh:

the solution to your friends problem is for him to agree with her aspirations of ex pat living and get a job in Saudi, either for Saudi or for a private/exec operator.

Mind you she can always leave, probably with the kids, while you are stuck in the exotic Arabian peninsula enjoying life in a true democratic and free society!!!

Balls - if he is earning 100,000 quid a year he is a catch and any smart woman would recognise that and wind her neck in if he is happy where he is. What would she do if they all trooped off to the sand pit and he failed his check or just did not get on (does happen, no matter how good you think you are). Dump him for the tennis coach? Hope she's a looker, 'cos she will need to be if she goes down that track.

Kids brought up in those joints can become brats, or worse brats than they already are, so creating a better life for them is a bull!!!! reason to go expatriate. There's more to life than perpetual sunshine. On his current salary I am sure they can all have a nice family vacation every year in the Caribbean if it's sunshine and dark skin that make her horny.

For all you know, the wife could be the investment banker on £1m p.a. offered a more senior role in Dubai with a promotion, which benefits his "lifestyle" as well. He is more attracted to the stability.

Unlikely, but assuming she is simply looking out for herself is sexist.

Frankly, if she is looking for the better education of the kids, it is a case of 2v1 or even 3v1 in the argument for the move...

In my previous post I suggested that he remortgage the house and plan a getout stratergy. I was going to add to it that if she's rich in here own right then maybe he should stick it out. In todays times this is not unusual what with inheritance, mega-bucks in the city etc.

Joking apart, what really stuck me about the original thread is the fact that he is happy where he is and with an 100k per year income, life in the UK does not have to be !!!!ty:ok:

Life in the emirates can be good as long as all goes well, but the veneer is very thin and when broken its run like England in the middle ages.
Why don't they have few hols out here or buy a time share and try it that way then make a decision.

Tried it. Left for EK in 2003, returned to UK 2006. I was hardly ever at home. EK works you to an early grave, after 6 months of sun wife was bored to tears. As for schooling, our daughter was in a good school ( J.E.S.S.) thought she was doing well as she was in the top end of her class, now back in the UK she is playing catch up.
All in all we are all glad to be back in the UK. EK was the worst move we ever made.

I can only reinforce what the sheikh says - went EK in 2003 returned to the real world in 2005. Whole family very glad to be back, notwithstanding taxes, etc, etc

EK works you into the ground - brutal rosters and financially not a good move - barely caters for the now, let alone providing for the future. As a Captain with a UK charter could have afforded a 2 week holiday in the Jumeirah Beach - with EK couldn't afford to go for a meal there!!

Each to their own but I would strongly counsel against the move - don't be blinded by the smoke and mirrors act at the interview!!
