Portugalia Airlines

Got a call from Portugalia Airlines the other day about an EMB-145 FO position. Anybody know anything about this airline. Is this a good airline to go and work for?
There must be a shortage of qualified pilots in Europe these days. I only hold a US ATPL (NO JAA), but I have around 1300 hours on the EMB-145 for a US regional airline. Currently on the Boeing 737-800 for a US charter airline. I am a Norwegain national. I have also been in contact with Ryan Air. Both these airlines are willing to validate my FAA license.

Good luck

No airline in Europe, including Ryanair validates licenses. You will take two exams as well as a medical to initiate the validation process with the Irish Aviation Authority. You are responsible to complete the process. They will give you guidance and that's all.

By the way, are you a members of teh Miami Air International club?

I belive you have to complete the 14 JAA ATPL exams within 12 months if Ryan Air decided to hire you on an FAA ticket.
You also need an FAA ATP with a B737 type rating and around 200 hours on the 737NG before they will hire you on an FAA ticket.

I`ve flown to PGA...

Get away for that....

Low pays , they are probably offering you a temporary contract but as soos as you are there they will offer you a permanent position. As a first officer you will take home 2000 euros a month.

Don`t expect to be moved up in less than 5 years. After that they will move you up if they have no portuguese pilots to move up and as lond as you are an ass kisser.

It`s a company to "Yes Men".

The country is nice to live , but I think you are going to waste your time and energy there.

About the license...rely on CAPTJNS....He is right.
They say they give you the license just because they have been loosing lots of pilots and they are really short . They will give you a validation , and you will have 1 year to get your JAA . If you teke more than a year ,they fire you and tell this story for another guy...

I would go to Ryanair before PGA if you really want to return to Europe. But, make sure you read about the roller coaster ride provided by Ryanair before you accept. PGA is a dead end in my opinion...

Why don't you want to stay in the States? Flying an 800 in the States isn't good enough for you? If you long for European flying again, Ryanair might be the ticket...
