BA shorthaul roster question
Hello all.
Was hoping someone might give me an idea as to what new joiner's roster on the 73 might look like. Also, I would not be living in the UK; would commuting be possible and would there be any sort of staff discount on travel. I'm debating whether to apply now while there is recruitment or to wait a bit until I have the required experience for long haul. Hopefully a few answers from you folks might help me decide. Apologies if these questions have been asked recently, but after battling with the search function for a while and not finding what I wanted, I thought it best to throw the questions out and go get some sleep. Thanks in advance. Buter |
Very briefly, and current state of affairs - can easily change! - 73 means LGW. More "day trips", less long tours, than Airbus @ LHR.
People do "commute" for SH, but it is hard work, and no Staff Travel for first 6 months. In SH, and junior, you will spend a lot of extra UK nights because your report is before the first inbound flight arrives, or last flgiht has gone by the time you clear. Rule #1 for any seniority based company is join ASAP - sort out fleet / lifestyle once you are "in". Plenty of people joined having been offered LH and ended up on SH... Shame to have also cost yourself hundreds of seniority places as well :{ HTH NoD |
Most commuters at Gatwick are Captains with reasonably high seniority, so they can be pretty sure of the type of roster they will get. They can also afford to book with Easy etc. if staff travel goes wrong, or flight times don't suit.
It costs £40-£50, inc tax, return to most places in Europe with staff travel, 6 months to qualify. Staff travel is best from places that fly to both Heathrow and Gatwick with many daily flights. These are limited to places like Geneva, and Nice. There is a shuttle linking LGW to LHR but it's about £16 and no staff discount. Lots of long haul FO's commute. |
