BA Second Chance

I have been invited back for a second chance of the BA S/H DEP and am not looking forward to the interviews again.

Im just wondering if i can use the same examples of the answers to the myriad of questions that they ask in the one to one interview as i used last year. Or do they record the answers and expect new ones.

Of course alot has happened in the last year and will be using new material but I used some good one's last year and if able i'd like to use them again.

Has anyone been AGAIN recently and are the questions the same as before or have you got some new one's.

Any help much appreciated.

Just wondring when was your first attempt at the assessment? also when did they contact you for another shot? was it past the 1 year mark exactly or before? kind of in the same boat and would like to know more...:}

Please don't take offence - but BA are really struggling to recruit at the moment because what they are offering is not very good (intially they thought that type rated 777 pilots would apply!!) - so relax, try and concentrate on the bits that felt uncomfortable last time round and good luck!

Unless you have had experiences which are better answers to the questions in the interim use the same ones. (Unless they were pants to begin with).

During my interview I was faced with the dreaded repetition of a story having used it too soon. But since the question was along the lines of the 'most challenging' (can't quite remember but it was something like that) I said 'The example I gave you when I did x was the most challenging - I can give you another slightly less challenging example if you wish.' They said - 'No, that's fine' and went on to the next question.

If you can offer to repeat a story in the same interview I would have thought doing it a year later would be fine!:}

In fact, unless all your new examples are very recent I would be suspicious as to how your past had changed so much in the the interim:p

Capt.

I took the test March last year and recieved the recall a few weeks ago. They are calling people about 6-8 weeks ahead of the one year mark.

Sean

No offence taken! I'm aware of the discord in BA but even with that in mind it will be 100 times better than my current crowd.

Last year i got to the sim and made a couple of boo boo's that just stopped me short of getting in. I've worked hard on them and if succesful at interview i think i stand a better chance this time round......mainly because im going to go in more relaxed and be myself.

Cheers:cool:

I think your right and will use many from last year.

One or two thing have happened in that year which are absolute crackers and have adjusted my crib sheet accordingly

Cheers:ok:

B.A. Selection Tests

I am looking for some good books to use to swat up for the BA Maths and English tests on Day 1. Anyone got any good pointers, as my English needs a lot of work!

Also, anybody know the format for the day?

Many thanks.

Chuffer 26th February 2006 21:53

If I could add my tuppence worth -

I've just been through the second time. The format was the same, and I used the same answers in the int this time round. Last year I got through to the sim which was a grilling. Apparently if you're a borderline pass on day one (I was) you get all the tough questions as a double check while you're trying to fly the route.

This year I was told I had a straight pass on day one, and the sim check was a straight forward route to land with no awkward questions.

Hope this helps

Chuffer

I remember being told years ago during a LOFT course at the ATC academy (or whatever they're called nowadays), that if anyone is asking you questions whilst you're flying the sim during an assessment, they are looking for you to demonstrate your prioritisation skills by telling them to "stand by" whilst you get on with your primary task.

I guess if you're a real wizz-kid and can easily process and respond to a difficult question at a quiet point in the flight, you should go for it. I would like to think that they are mostly trying to 'weed out' those who can't prioritise rather than spot the wizz-kids, but the strategy finds both.

The immortal phrase "Can we talk about that after landing?" sure seems a better way to go than screwing up your sim assessment but I don't work in BA recruitment, so please read this with the usual health warning... That I could just be talking bollocks.

I got a recall letter and am considering re-applying. Went online today, and can't log back in. It says it doesn't even recognise my email address. I stupidly threw away the recall letter - does anyone have contact info so I can call and check on what to do??

Ta!

John Try the SHL website which has several tests online with instant answers and post mortem.

Also try "Passing Psychometric Test" by Andrea Shavick ISBN no.1-85703-819-3 £9.99 from WH Smiths.

Did the BA thing last week and I guess it's a no, as I've heard nothing and now I await the dreaded e-mail. Any fellow 'no's have any idea how long it takes?

Thanks

PRNAV1 1st March 2006 12:41

Takes about a week or two. I was well gutted when i recieved it last year but still want another shot. It's what i want and i'm going to really spell that out this time without sounding too desperate and crying in the interview. Don't think that helped me last time :{

sarmonkey 1st March 2006 15:02

Thanks mate.... I await the e-mail.

Waka Rider 1st March 2006 15:16

Guys I know it sounds strange but no news can later turn into good news. BA run review boards, someone may not have reached a certain standard in one area however you may have score well in other areas. These are discussed through the review boards. Hope it helps. Once again no news may just mean BA are having a better look at you.

Good luck

Hello guys and girls,
Ive just received confirmation of a BA pilot assessment day in a week or so!
this is my first time.
i'd much appreciate a few tips on what to expect..
and what one thing made you shine on the day?? or what did you do wrong??
common questions etc?

I know it may be a cheek to ask but i'll need all the help i can get!!!

I'm presently a capt on a 737NG but facing redundancy.

Thanks in advance,

STORMER 17th March 2006 13:59

Before the Sim had a go in a B727 sim down in bournemouth. The sim is basically a CRM exercise but I chose to have a go in an older jet to try and free up some capacity and help the confidence levels.
If you want to have a go in the sim then contact Mike Boulton (07799 887274) and he will be able to help. It worked for me.

Best of luck

HZ123 18th March 2006 10:18

If it is at Cranebank then perhaps a recent attendee can confirm which sim the check takes place on. At times they have been using the Bac 1-11 which most of you youngsters have in some cases never heard off?

Da Dog 18th March 2006 10:20

Its the 1-11

gone till november 18th March 2006 16:49

Stormer

Did the 727 last year and must admit i dont think it helped me.

According to my BA debrief the flying was fine for which i did a lot of raw data flying on line. It was two other areas critical to BA that i made errors on, simple things but important to them.

The 727 sim is brilliant but it was done as single crew and the emphasis was on the flying and not the two crew aspect.

If you do it which i would still recommend for some try and do it with another BA hopeful and concentrate on the two crew thing with an eye on the flying.

Good luck to one and all:)

Dutch 19th March 2006 10:12

Of course they are looking for more than just the flying. Nobody can fly the 1-11 perfectly. It's more than a handfull. Of course have an idea of how to enter and fly a hold and intercept and track a radial (basic IF stuff) but what they are looking for is captaincy (don't know if that's a word). Communicate with each other. It's hard enough to fly the thing so use the other person in your decision making. Basically, good CRM is a must.

Good luck and also try to enjoy the experience because you don't get to fly the 1-11 every day (thank God) ;)
