Is it possible to put a US type rating on a JAA license (as a 12 month validation)?
Firstly, before anybody makes the wise & valid recommendation, I have done a search of this topic with no success. TIA :D
Does anybody know if one can put a factory obtained type rating (obtained previously and entered on a US ATPL) onto a current JAA license as a validation/restriction, e.g. only for a particular company or a particular country a/c register? I never had time or the opportunity to get hours on the type (too busy flying line ops elsewhere on other type) but would never the less like to fly it here in Europe if & when the opportunity arises without have to redo the JAA version of it. I have heaps of JAA two man airlines ops/jet time etc so no worries about 1500 hrs command etc. Thanks Aslan |
Thanks Ozymandias :ok: ,
I'll look straight into the section Aslan |
hi
I did some reserch a couple of years ago and was told that; no you can not transfer the type to your jaa cert unless you have 500h on type. then you only have to do a pc. how ever most countrys allow you to fly on your faa for up to one year and there for you are allowed to fly the type for a jaa operator. when you have the 500h on type ( within one year) you do the pc. some of the us schools are actually aproved for jaa examinations, others can be aproved retroactively. hope it helps, good luck |
Hi Bushboy,
Thanks for the idea. I'll definitely see if I can pursue this course of action. It would certainly make life much less complicated. Aslan |
If it's a corporate jet try Flight Safety at Farnborough. They have JAARs authority.

Has anybody had any success with the UK CAA for a 12 month validation for a 737 rating or even with a JAA license and a 12 month 'validation like' recognition of a FAA 737 type rating?
|
Yes the CAA gave me all my ratings that I had with more than 500hrs P1 on but chared £100 pre rating.

Hi Hotair,
Thats great. I forgot to mention though. I don't have any time on this particular type e.g. 737. That seems to be the catch. Aslan |
I got my SF34 rating added to my JAA certificate just this fall. It has a limitation to only be flown in the company I work for but it is better than nothing.
|
Catans,
Did you have any time on the SF34 before it was added to your JAA license or did you add it with >500 hrs on type? By the way, which JAA country was involved here? thanks Aslan |
B737/300-500 base training
Can anybody recommend a JAR FCL TRTO with good prices for the base training, e.g. the four touch and goes etc

I telephoned the UK CAA about this very same question about a 2 weeks ago. I am in the same boat with wanting to transfer a ICAO 737 rating, but no time on the real type. As the LASOR states, its sufficient training to pass the final check in this instance.
So think of it this way, you would most likely do a LPC with any airline you get employed with, and the bit of paper signing you off on that is all the CAA want to see to now put the rating on your licence in our case. |
Hi DeltaT,
