how long
how long is a pilot away from home long haul flying
and how long away medium haul flying |
Depends on the airline and how frequently they fly to the long haul destination. could be 1 night, could be 3. pretty sure if its a scheduled carrier you can't be there for more than a wk and i doubt that they would send you there for that long because it would be to costly.
company have to pay you for being there plus they'll be losing your services while they wait for you to get back. but this varies with company. can any one add to this.....:) |
There's LOTS of variations out there. My company is mostly overnight express freight, medium-haul. We have a few routes of 5 hours, most are shorter. We put in fewer block hours than long-haul or medium-haul pax. Most characterize our schedule as "week-on,week-off". My next five weeks look like:
10 nights away 9 nights home 9 nights away 7 nights home The time away includes a 3 day-2 night layover in one city and a 4 day-3 night layover in another. A few of our folks who are senior enough to hold layovers in their home city can break up the time away considerably. Some are even home every day, just flying weeknights to the sort hub and back each morning. |
Six weeks ON worldwide, two weeks OFF anywhere |
US long-haul freight airlines usually run 16-20 days on (away, could be all at once or split in two periods) the rest of the month days off.
