Another BA Question?
 

As a junior FO how do you get days off for weddings,events etc? Does blindline bidding have some system of getting special days off? And what day of the month does the roster come out?
To qualify for the 777 is 4000 airline hours with 500 being on the A320 enough?

You get trump days, taken as a pair, failing that a swap is sometimes possible. Rosters are published on 14-16th of the preceeding month.

You have plenty of hours for the 777.

Trump days? You won't be getting any of those at LHR. Beg rostering for the days off is your first option. If that doesn't work then try a trip swap or beg management.

Agreed Carnage Matey- there is no such thing as "Trump days" in Bidline.

To get a "special" day off you need to either get a trip line which has the day off you want (unlikely but not impossible if you are a newbie), or get a blindline and then plead with your mates to swop or with the schedulers for the day off (but they will never guarantee anything). Failing that you can plead with "the management" ................who may agree to giving you the time off........................and then will ring you to draft you on that special day:ooh:

In seventeen years I have never had a special day-off request refused - death in the family, funeral, wedding, children going to university, whatever. It is the one thing the company has been good at - as long as one is reasonable about it.

One of the great strengths of Bidline is the ability to get a specific day/days off when you really need them.I would also agree with one of the posts above that BA are very good when it comes to compassioinate leave-time with no loss of credit/pay.HTH.

You might be able to choose yours days off with bidline in your mighty position on the seniority list!
Not so easy fot the rest of us, but agreed compassionate days etc are almost always granted!

On a similar note...

...joining the airbus fleet at LHR at the end of Jan. I have a family wedding in May in the states and was wondering if i'll be able to book some leave at that time? How does the leave bidding system work and have i missed the the bidding for May next year? If its anything like the airline im leaving then i would have a chance so long as i give 10 weeks notice - but having no clue about the bidline system and how it works i would guess that im way off the mark!

I suppose from what ive read above i could at least get a couple of days off with the "ask the schedulers", "swap trips" or "ask management" methods.

Not sure you will be able to use staff travel for the first 6 months, or maybe the rules have changed..

Summer DFW (Duty Free Week) bid closes Jan 9th, and Summer Leave closed ages back. You'll be fine - assuming the wedding is mid-week ;)

May is not that "popular" for Leave/DFW... so there may be slots left available. I would consider contacting BA ASAP, or certainly within the first few days after you arrive to see what they can do...

I suggest you contact NoD who is without doubt BA's foremost bidline whizkid. I think he knows someone who has a very good computer program designed for such purposes. :)
